The problem is that today you have Japanese car companies building cars in the United States, while some of the models by the big 3 may be assembled in Canada or Mexico or be assembled here using parts made elsewhere.

I bought a Dodge made by Union labor. I had to or my baby brother would have had my legs broke.

I loved my Honda and I love my Volkswagen. I ran my Honda for over 300k and Americans just don't seem to be able to do that. My VW is a 2001 with over 150k and runs like she is brand new. My American cars have had tons of issues, lose value quicker, just aren't as well made.

I drove my VW in 3 different countries, 250,000 miles, and would love to have it back. It was used to the warmth, and I didn't have the heart to make it endure the arctic. Besides, it didn't have a working heater, or intact floorboards for that matter.

See kids if you cut enough corners and fail to innovate, your competitors will destroy your market in less then a decade.

I 3> my VW. I currently have a 2001 Cabrio and before that I had a 1970 VW Bug. I miss my Bug :(

Both cars were great, well, Karmen (the Cabrio) is still great and I know she has many more miles in her. Maybe the Dominicans will let me keep her. She is white after all. lol

My dad always called Fords Fix Or Repair Daily.

My Chevy Cobalt has less than 20k miles and has already had some issues.

Meanwhile, the old Chrysler plant down the street from me is being disassembled piece by piece.

The following is a list of automobile manufacturers and the states in which they have motor vehicle assembly plants (non-exhaustive):

BMW - SC
Chrysler - IL, IN, MI, NC, OH, WI
Ford - IL, KY, MI, MN, MO, NY, OH
GM - KS, KY, LA, MI, OH, TN, TX, WI
Honda - AL, OH
Hyundai - AL
Mazda - MI
Mercedes-Benz - AL
Subaru - IN,
Toyota - AL, CA, IN, KY, MS, TX, WV
Volkswagen - TN*

* Under Construction

This list is not very good for anything, other than showing that non-US-based automobile manufacturers can and do contribute to the US economy (cf. Toyota).
