part of my penance will be not staying up late, going to bed 'on time' so as to get rest and not be grumpy in the morning.

yes... in the morning is when you are grumpy... no other times during the day! Nope!! Just the AM (and just briefly) :saint:

I don't drink pop, coffee or beer, and I rarely watch TV. lol. I actually don't eat that much chocolate, either, which is surprising, considering how much I love it.

hmm.. salt? snoozebar? (getting up and out of bed as soon as the alarm goes off) tea?

1. Sin.

You aren't suppose to anyway and then you don't need to give anything else up.

gee thanks :|

I can't give up salt for health reasons...maybe it should be my Lenten thing to actually follow my high salt diet. I did have a professor once who talked about how his wife would pick his penance (and she loved it, because she wasn't Catholic, so she didn't do anything, so he couldn't retaliate.), and she'd pick really random things, like bread or pepper or something like that. I've tried to get my hubby to pick for me, but he won't. <_<
I HATE the snooze button! And I don't drink tea. But thanks for trying. ;)

I'm thinking of trying to give up complaining and focusing on patience, because that's one area I need a LOT of work. My husband and I are also going to give up meat on Wednesdays, as well as Fridays. (For one thing, we do the meat thing every Friday, so it's not a huge significance during Lent).

>my face when people give up stuff they should have already given up ages ago
>my face when Jesus thinks Lent is garbage

Sorry lol giving up stuffing your face with sweets for a month is no way to go about anything. Thanking Jesus and living like him for 12 months out of the year is the only acceptable form of repayment.

uniting our sacrifices to Christ's sacrifice is never a bad thing.

Try giving up speech. I think I will try to give up speech from 7pm to 7am. Grand silence

Wow.... that would be amesome! I just might do that!
I'd also like to make it a point to do the Stations every day.

For the past few Lents, I have given up all meat, I have given up time (spending more time in prayer, or more quality time with my family, or doing charity work), I gave up secular books, and I gave up sugar in my oatmeal (which I forced myself to eat every morning).

I know people are like, "Oh c'mon the sweets thing is so cliche" but you know what? I have a huge sweet tooth. I mean IRRATIONALLY huge sweet tooth. I crave something sweet almost every second of every day. So for me, giving up sweets/desserts is a huge deal. It's a big sacrifice for people like me!

I'd say Facebook. At first I was like, "There is NO way I could give that up..." but the more I think about it, the more appropriate it would be for me. It will be incredibly hard ... if I were a cat my curiosity would have killed me ages ago, and Facebook satisfies my interest in "hey, what's going on with everyone I know!" ... so in order to mortify my curiosity, I've decided to do it. Eeek ... wish me luck!
