MissScripture
Any ideas on what I should give up for Lent?
mamalove
I'm giving up complaining. Now, I seriously doubt that I'll be able to go all the way through Lent without complaining once, especially with having a new baby in a week. But, I'm going to really put some effort into watching what I say and "offering it up."
Lil Red
part of my penance will be not staying up late, going to bed 'on time' so as to get rest and not be grumpy in the morning.

Luigi
1. Chocolate 2. Soda 3. Coffee - or at least the expensive fancy stuff; what you would've spent but don't, you donate to a charity 4. Beer 5. A favorite - or at least well-liked - television show 6. IM-ing, and/or texting, and/or Facebooking, and/or Phatmassing, and/or tweeting, etc. 7. Complaining about other Catholics (not directed specifically at YOU MS - just a general suggestion)
AudreyGrace
you know.. you could always DO something extra rather than give something up that you'll most likely go back to doing on Easter anyways... as for me, i'm giving up soda and unhealthy snacks, possibly fb or phatmass, not sure yet. then, I'm going to adoration Sundays at 3am and praying a daily rosary. I actually don't eat that much chocolate, either, which is surprising, considering how much I love it.
tnavarro61
Try giving up speech. I think I will try to give up speech from 7pm to 7am. Grand silence I will give up useless internet. That includes Facebook. Phatmass would be given up on Mondays and Fridays for a whole day. I just cannot give up Phatmass entirely! Then, Daily Rosary everyday. i will try praying the Midday prayer. I will not stay up late too. When the clock hits 10pm I must be at bed!
emilier98
I'm giving up soda. I like the weight I lost the first time I did it. I'm going to go to daily mass and pray a rosary every day. I am also going to make a gratitude list everyday

HopefulBride
I am doing a technology fast; here is what I am hoping for Monday - Thursday limited tech. (no FB, no Wikipedia, limited TV except for the lessons I have to do as assigned by Mother Kathryn (definitely no Army wives, or white collar) I find that getting sucked in the series make it too easy to waste hours watching TV when I can spend some time reading the lives of the saints, very limited Phatmass use) Fridays work-related only and Sundays (nothing, not even my phone) I REALLY need help with this. I have taken the first step by removing FB app from my phone and my phatmass BM. I have also taken away all of my games and have made it difficult for me to browse the internet. I just need to figure out how much time very limited phatmass use translates to. This all stems from my ultimate resolution to spend more time in silence with the Lord. I feel that by cutting the time spent on these things, I can increase the time spent with Him. I am also resolving to spending more time in adoration (Now I get about 3 or so hours in a week) I want to get at least 6 hours in (with daily visits - I go at most 3 days a week) Also, more spiritual reading, I recently picked up the book The Fire Within per my SD's orders lol. I am hoping that spending more time getting to know the saints and the great spiritual guides of our times (Dubay, Merton etc...) I can grow into a deeper relationship with him. Prayers for you all as you discern your spiritual exercises for Lent. I pray it brings you many fruits. Please keep me in your prayers. Pax! OnlySunshine
I'm thinking about rush ordering a biography on St. Catherine of Siena and, maybe, St. Rose of Lima to read during Lent. Edited March 7, 2011 by MaterMisericordiae
