Nihil Obstat
I'm not, but I know a bit about how they work. Someone may be able to give you more detailed answers. Basically, since the KofC was the Catholic response to Freemasonry, they took the secrecy that is a part of the Freemasons, and 'Catholicized' it.
I can tell you only this: it involves Smurfs and applesauce. The rest of the ingredients are . . . oops! ~Sternhauser Edited March 6, 2011 by Sternhauser
Catholictothecore
LOl... I am a 1st Degree Knight. All the ceremonies are secret, mainly for ideology and personal impact. Would something mean as much if you knew what was going to happen before it happened? We all know from experience, sometimes it's what we don't see coming that sticks in our hearts the longest. All I have to do is look at my wonderful wife to know that truth. KofC Homepage

Catholictothecore
Not really. But the ceremony really only matters in context of the men. If you trust the men, and really the Church, as the popes have always supported the efforts of the Knights, what is there to be afraid of? The gain is sooo very much more than than anything they ask in return.

If it is you going through the ceremony, do you not trust your brother Knights to look out for you and take care of you? I know I do. I would entrust my life to most of them. Also, don't you think that if it were some horrendous event, that you would be hearing about it all over the news with the way the media is now? My advice is to relax, enjoy the ceremony, and get everything out of it that you can. I like to believe that most Knights cherish and respect the order enough not to reveal more than they know can be said.

Please don't think I was trying to infer that the Knights put each new member through some sort of torture session; I was just asking a simple question... Just know that you won't get very many answers here. Many have asked, and those that are member of the KofC on here generally won't give it up.
