I Broke My Collarbone...

I broke my collarbone, or clavicle. I took a hard hit in hockey when I ran into another very large guy and then I got hit by the big barn door on the back of my semi-trailer at work when it got caught by the wind last monday. I guess that's what really did it. I guess I'm not invincible.. It was sore but I didn't realize that I had a broken bone until after playing hockey last Wednesday. I started feeling the sore shoulder and I found a lump on my collarbone -- and it really hurt!

So have any of you guys had any experience with a broken collarbone? I kept working and I haven't reported it at work because I don't want to deal with all of the Workmans Comp nonsense. It does kind of hurt but it is definitely getting better. Should I wear one of those figure eight harnesses? Where do you get those? I understand that it can take a month or longer to fully heal.

During the Big Snow of '85, my dad was up on the roof clearing the snow and ice, he slipped and fell off the roof, knocked the wind outta him and he crawled into the house gasping for air. By the time the ambulance had come, he was already sitting on a chair having a shot of whisky. Turns out he broke his collar bone in the fall.

Had a brother who broke one. Ice, stop sign, steering wheel, you know. He had to work left-handed for quite a while. He was a diesel mechanic, so no idea how he managed that. Lots of drugs, knowing him.

That doesn't sound so good. Fortunately for me it's my left side. And it doesn't really hurt unless I lift my arm forward. I think it's the sort of thing where you just have to take it easy for a while.

Hahaha... I broke my collarbone when I was in elementary school, like 4th or 5th grade. It was sumer time and our day care center took a field trip to a chocolate 'factory.' I was closing the van door and slipped. I was still holding onto the latch on the inside of the door and apparently the force was enough to give it a good crack. In the ER, the doctor said he'd let me see my x-ray, but never did. I was quite disappointed about that, but I had myself a fun brace to wear and had to take sponge baths for a long time. It healed pretty well, but sometimes I can really feel my pulse where it broke.
