Brother Adam
Is that how you justify it? It's an unsound method. But we'll use it for now. How do the minority of Phatmassers and non-Phatmass Catholics justify it? I'd much prefer a universal, however. ~Sternhauser
I did not mention anything about justification.

Brother Adam
The moral responsibility for the use of government funds by elected officials for matters that are intrinsically evil lies with the officials, not the tax payer. While a Catholic may find himself morally justified in choosing not to pay taxes due to a moral evil being performed by the government he should not try to bind other people to follow his lead, and I would not recommend it if he has a family that he is responsible to take care of. Such would not be prudent. While you may choose not to shop at a store that sells condoms, you are not morally culpable for such a sale (unless you are the one buying them). EcceNovaFacioOmni
This is why I do all my shopping online. That way, people never get my money, it just all goes to the computer.
That's G. Edited February 27, 2011 by thedude
franciscanheart
Well then, should you pay taxes? ~Sternhauser
Mark 12:14-17 They came and said to him, "Teacher, we know that you are a truthful man and that you are not concerned with anyone's opinion. You do not regard a person's status but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not? Should we pay or should we not pay?" Knowing their hypocrisy he said to them, "Why are you testing me? Bring me a denarius to look at." They brought one to him and he said to them, "Whose image and inscription is this?" They replied to him, "Caesar's." So Jesus said to them, "Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.' They were utterly amazed at him. (Sorry to jump in. It's what came to mind.)
Adrestia
I imagine the vast majority of phatmassers probably get more money from the federal government than they pay in with current tax laws.
I like your imaginary world. Reality is so much more expensive! Lil Red, Seriously though, what's your alternative? Is it that much more expensive or that much less convenient? What about the good that Target does? Our local Target donates to schools and other things for the local community. I also dislike WalMart, but they are the only retailer on the island that sells certain dog treats I like. I could make my dog go without them, or buy them online, but I don't... I just smell of elderberries it up and buy them at WalMart. (Those dog treats are the only reason that I step foot in that store.) On the other hand, I do order biodegradable trash bags and dog-clean-up bags online. I cannot justify preserving my garbage or my dog's poo in plastic bags for a few hundred years.
