add
Griffin, who is a Roman Catholic, made some in the company uncomfortable by referring to his faith during meetings and interactions with subordinates link
Semper Catholic
He's lucky. This is like firing a captain while the ship is sinking and he gets to leave on the last life boat. Aside from their "person of the year" issue TIME has become entirely obsolete.
add
Griffin's Catholicism in explaining the firing is itself curious—it's unusual, to say the least, for a major company to make someone's expression of his religious views or orientation an issue, especially in public like this.
i wonder just what Mr Griffin said that was so offensive? offensive enought to get fired over, is not being politically correct some sort of a crime, now a days? Winchester
He should have said he was gay. Then he couldn't be fired at all ever, even if he devoured the entire board of directors. The EEOC would step in and unfire him, plus give him millions of dollars.
JenDeMaria
When we did our anti-harrasment training this year, the definition of harassment was broadened to such an extent that essentially any action which can be considered offensive by another person -- with no attempt to qualify "offensive" on any scale of reasonability -- can now be termed harassment. In our cheesy training video, a woman who appears to be an Evangelical Christian with a southern accent repeatedly waves a pamphlet at another employee and says she's praying for the woman of unspecified faith. This was presented as cut-and-dry harassment. So you see, it's like that. If you imply that the content of your beliefs pass judgement on another -- ie, they're going to Hell, they need Jesus, they're committing sexual sins, etc -- you've harassed your felllow employee(s) and are vulnerable to your employers interpretation of current workplace zero-tolerance policies. Winchester
If someone overhears a private conversation and feels offended, the people having the private conversation are at fault. Funny thing, those wimps writing these rules don't have the guts to enforce them themselves. They're cowards, every one.
Semper Catholic
Sounds like he was being a pretentious so and so "Everybody get in your pews" really dude? Either way he should be thinking of this as a blessing.
BigJon16
Maybe God didn't want him working for Time? There are better things for a Catholic to be doing, like oh I don't know, serving God. He should take this as a sign. After all how does being a magazine exec for a magazine that is not religious in any way, help spread God's word? Ed Normile
Shewww, he sounds like some kind of Catholic Zealot, perhaps they should have crucified him too. I bet he picked on wiccans and said mean things like vampires do not exist! He probably even refused to work on sundays, radical creep. ed
