Livin_the_MASS
"We are preparing ourselves for the ultimate mystery, the ultimate wonder and the ultimate discovery, that "No eye has seen, no ear heard, nor has it entered into the heart of man what God has prepared of those who love Him." ( 1 Cor 2:9). Words pale into insignificance when contemplating the all loving, all knowing, all powerful God. Our Lord's words speak volumes: "No one can see me and live!" "Only in the resurrected body can this come to fruition. St. Paul tells us that the risen body will be imperishable, glorious, powerful and spiritual (1 Cor 15:42-44). The risen body, now glorified, will have four gifts: impassibility, splendor, agility, and subtlety. "Impassibility means our risen bodies will never know physical pain or corruption; splendor is the ability to shine with a glory like that of Jesus at the Transfiguration; agility is the capacity to pass from place to place with speed of thought, and subtlety enables these bodies to interpenetrate other material things and pass through them as Christ passed through the barred door in the Upper Room of Jerusalem (Jn 20:19). "Throughout all eternity the damned soul can never be with their Creator or know these gifts! In place of impassibility their risen bodies will know pain; in place of splendor their bodies will be bronze and black with fire; in place of agility, they will be resticted to the confines of Hell; and in place of subtlety, they can not even break the bonds that lock them in Hell! "Hell is where the damned souls will realize, too late, what their sin cost them! Therefore, "It is the greatest of errors," said St. Eucherius, "to neglect the business of eternal salvation." "We will be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed" (1 Cor 15:51-52). "Then Jesus Christ will be our judge! And He said that Judgment Day is not going to be a day of rejoicing but a day of general mourning. On Judgment Our Lord will say to those about to be damned the most terrifying words imaginable: "Depart from me you cursed into everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angel" (Mt 25:41).." There is a Hell, I read this and thought man I should think about Hell a little more often, and pray more for salvation of souls. What a sad day this will be indeed. St Anthony said: "There stongest desire [in Hell] will be to die." "Men shall seek death and shall not find it. And they shall desire to die, and death shall fly from them" ( Apoc. 9:6) St. Louis de Montfort: "The number of the elect is so small--so small-- that were we to know how small it is, we should faint away with grief." St John of the Cross: "Behold how many that are called, and how few that are chosen. And see that if you have no care for yourself, your perdition is more certain than your amendment, especially since the way that leads to eternal life is so narrow." St Anthony Mary Claret: "You may say that a sinner does not think of Hell, nor even believes in it. So much the worse for him. Do you by any chance think that he will not be condemned because of his unbelief? Certainly not, for it is a most manifest sign of his fatal condemnation as the Gospel says: (Mk 16:16). Although the sinner does not believe in Hell, he shall nevertheless go there if he has the misfortune to die in mortal sin, even though he neither believes in Hell nor even thinks about it." I'm posting this because Hell is a reality and people go there. If people want to come on this thread and start judging others, THAN THIS THREAD IS NOT FOR YOU!!!. Hell is real and should be talked about and remembered. Please maintain charity if you wish to talk about it! Peace of Christ to all Jason Edited April 22, 2004 by Jason

amarkich
This is something that Modernist and neo-conservatives (as well as "conservatives") like to deny today. They are also quick to point out that the writings of the Saints are not infallible (as they will do concerning all Tradition and Traditional beliefs). As for the quotes, they are great. I just don't know how you managed to discuss this topic without a quote from Saint John Vianney! Also, Jason, did you try to find that book I mentioned--Memoirs at the Oratory? God bless. Livin_the_MASS
No one really knows the qualification for "few"
Actually Bro Adam it is very scary, I don't know if you have studied Fatima or not but Our Lady said "Many souls go to Hell" That is why Christ is manifesting His Divine Mercy, to bring souls back to the confessional to have there sins absolved. Believe me brother, the quote above scares me too, now I know why St. Paul says to work out our salvation in fear and trembling. Livin_the_MASS
But we also have to have trust, "Jesus I trust in You."
Brother Adam
That still isn't qualifying few or many.

Livin_the_MASS
St. Teresa of Avilla: "Souls are falling into Hell like leaves from the trees." We need to start praying BIG TIME! God Bless Jason
amarkich
In regard to "few", there was a revelation made (I will clear up the details of person, year, etc, if necessary) that in the day that a certain man died, 33,000 also died that same day, and, of the many who died, 2 went straight to Heaven, 5 to Purgatory and the rest to Hell. That may clear up how few are numbered in 'the few.' God bless.

amarkich
Why is that surprising? How many people actually follow the Church's teachings? For the very few who are Catholic and who believe all that the Church teaches, how many of these live a life of holiness without any sin which would beaver dam them to Hell? If anything, these numbers would signify the fact that many more commit the sin of Despair before death than those who are moved to conversion. God bless. Livin_the_MASS
right....
Cmom, He is actually right!
"St. Bernard, the last Father of the Church, died August 20, 1153. The day he died (according to a holy bishop in France, and according to St. Anthony Marie Claret), 30,000 souls stood before the judgment seat of God. Two went straight to Heaven, one being St. Bernard; some to Purgatory---but the greater number were damned."
Please don't make this thread uncharitable, this should be talked about with charity.
"It is good to remember that most souls are in hell because they did not love; they lusted! Love is from God, lust from satan; love sees the person as a subject, lust as an object; love gives, lust takes; love merits an eternal reward in Heaven, lust an eternal damnation in Hell."
Quotes from same book. My idea was to talk about the fact that there is a Hell and people need to start praying for poor souls. Please remain in charity! cmotherofpirl
I am trying to be charitable, but private revelations are not infallible. People put more faith in the private revelations of Saints, that the Magisterium that declared them Saints. I am a Prayer Warrior for the Holy Souls and pray every day for people in purgatory, and those in danger of going to hell. But I never forget God is a God of Mercy. Brother Adam
I have no doubt many people go to hell. I think it is a bit far fetched to say 2 out of every 33,000. My guess is anywhere from 10-15% of us alive today would go to heaven if we died today Edited April 22, 2004 by Brother Adam
