ExCorde
I could really have used someone telling me this about 10 years ago... I had to go through it the (really) hard way. Those suggestions he makes in the video are about keeping your spiritual life high enough that the retreat won't matter everything (life or death) for you. I think its particularly vital for a teen who doesn't have the chance to live the faith with others in his ordinary life, like it was with me, to be followed up on after such retreats. I would encourage all retreat organizers to keep in touch with people that came over for the retreat on their own, especially the young ones. I've come to the understanding that when you're sharing the Faith with someone, you need to support them in their walk. It's too much to handle! One is brought face to face with the Truth, one surrenders and accept it but then isn't strong enough to keep growing from there and this can lead to a lot of complications. So people should really offer something in the way of a contact, letting folks who come for a retreat know that intense stuff will happen and that they can talk about it later if they need to. Kids often won't ask because it's too scary and just delve into their disenchantment or even despair. Edited February 16, 2011 by ExCorde
