MissScripture
I was reminded of something very important tonight, that I just wanted to share with everyone, in case other people have forgotten, as well. No matter what your personal feelings on a priest or how a priest does things, or how many abuses happen at a Mass, as long as the consecration is valid, God is present and giving Himself to you, and what is more amazing than that? tinytherese
That's right. I know that a lot of people complain that they can't be a Catholic or even a Christian because of the bad examples that they see in the Church. On the one hand, I do see where they are coming from, but Jesus is what really matters in the end. It reminds me of what Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta said: People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered; Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish ulterior motives; Be kind anyway. If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies; Succeed anyway. If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; Be honest and frank anyway. What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight. Build anyway. If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous; Be happy anyway. The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; Do good anyway. Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; Give the best you've got anyway. You see, in the final analysis it is between you and God; it was never between you and them anyway. source: http://www.asa3.org/ASA/education/views/teresa.htm

SoonerCatholic
My favorite book on church history, "Triumph: the Power and the Glory of the Catholic Church" by H.W. Crocker, reminded me just how much God has upheld his church in the past 2000 years. When some people say, "how can you be part of a church that has such horrible things in the past?" I think, "I think it is stronger for having endured those things, and the fact that it has survived them shows that God is with us." My other favorite book, "The Power and the Glory" by Graham Greene, is beloved for similar reason. Even though the gov't in Mexico has managed to drive out all the priests, the Church and the sacraments persist in that state through one little alcoholic priest and when he is taken away, he is replaced and the Church persists. Sure, the priests and bishops frustrate us, but without them we would not have the sacraments.

tinytherese
true, but all those bishops and cardinals combined doing idiotic or downright sinful things can be really depressing to think of
I second that. I find it especially frustrating to hear about orthodox priests being sent off to another parish or something by their liberal bishop because what they are doing and saying is in line with church teaching. I've been asking the intercession of St. Catherine of Siena who humbly got the pope to move back to Rome to pray for our bishops, as well as the intercession of the apostles.
