FYI - this app was designed by graduates from Franciscan University of Steubenville. The media is smearing them.

I saw the promo on FUS's fb page.

It's always annoying when stuff like this make the news because people say the dumbest things, and a lot of it is because of the dumb articles that perpetuate misconceptions about confession, like the idea that "the priest forgives your sins" herrrrp durrrrrrrrrrrr

Every time a TV show or a movie says "forgive me father for I have sinned..." I want to throw up a little. Been a Catholic my whole life and, funny, I wasn't taught to say that, and I've never said it once.

Seems like a good thing to make the news. It sounds like an excellent resource and anything that might increase awareness of the sacrament of Reconciliation in a way that is faithful to the Church should be encouraged.

Is there something wrong with using the words, "Forgive me, Father..."?

You must be young because I was taught that and I still use it when I confess. I like it - it puts me in a humble state of mind and penitent.

It's not bad to see this make the news in itself, but then come the choruses of bad priest jokes and ignorance, and those are very annoying.

It's "bless me Father, for I have sinned." When "forgive me father" is used it does little to help people understand how the sacrament works... like Catholics are going to the priest to be forgiven in a way that replaces God's forgiveness. I suppose people will still misunderstand it all, anyway. :wall:

not sure what the big idea of this is. clearly its an examination of conscious. its a great idea! also, anyone who cares enough about going to confession to download an app about it probably knows enough to know that you can't "app" a sacrament and its probably an examination of conscious.

Also, there are a ton of great Catholic apps on the app store. My favorites: iPieta is an entire library of Catholic theological teaching (writings from Church doctors, encyclicals, etc), Prayers has over 2000 Catholic prayers, and Divine Office has the daily prayers complete with audio to listen to!

Good stuff! Has definitely helped my faith. Props to amesome Catholics who use New Media to help the faithful! :clapping:

I downloaded it. As far as apps go, this should have been .99 cents, not 1.99, if not free. For crying out loud, ipieta was 1.99. It is a basic examination of conscience that then walks you through confession with the sins you checked that you need to confess. The examination is really pretty short and doesn't cover everything your typical Roman Missal guides will cover. I think it needs a lot more material. Hopefully that will come with time. The only thing unique about this is that if offers different logins for different people, and you can password protect your login, however, how many people use the same ipod? It's a great little app, but I probably would have not bought it in hindsight.
