Haha, I was actually looking at something like this on eBay when I was trying to put together a costume for an All Saints' Party. I wanted to go as St. Therese, but was not able to find a full costume.

I had seen this too but notice this line in the description: "The bottom part of the head dress - In real life is longer then able to be shown as extends down over breast area".

It seems as if the one you will actually GET will NOT be the long one that goes down the chest and is below the scapular. The picture shows a short one that will not work with a scapular - like there will be a gap between the scapular and this white part that should go farther down the chest.

If you are really interested, you should email the seller and verify it because between his description and the picture of this part of the headdress, it does NOT look like the picture of the woman/nun wearing it.

The veil pictured for sale shows two points at the back but for some reason Ive been thinking the real ones had only one point like this.

Great observation. This definitely wouldn't work with a scapular. Here St. Therese's toque was much longer. Also the material/way it's sewn across the forehead doesn't look very Carmelite either .. more Benedictine I would say. The Spanish headdress/veil tends to have more material across the forehead, but not like this.

Another good observation. I do know in some Carmels the Communion veil has two points (and also the great/parlor veil .. whatever is the correct term here) .. but it's different than the one pictured in this auction.

Brooklyn's great/outer veil .. the points are simply the way the material falls (these are especially Spanish btw and not all Spanish/Mexican origin Carmels have them like this .. you can see in those Elysburg enclosure ceremony pictures that theirs are a bit different .. personally I like these worn in Brooklyn)

If you look at the other veil this seller has, I would say they are working from one pattern for all.

oooooh interesting! It definitely looks like that Poor Clare one, and I really like that pic of Brooklyn as well. Ah heck Id take any veil but the shallow part of me does like the way Brooklyn's drapes at the back. :like:

LaPetiteSoeur

I used to have an old Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul habit. It was homemade, but really fun to wear!

Maybe I should find it....I doubt it would fit, though!

I know a woman who is a Civil War reenactor and does a Daughter of Charity impression. Her habit was done with the permission of the sisters in Emmitsburg and is perfect. She says that starching the bonnet is a real b***ch and wonders how the poor sisters wore it all day.

I had to wear one that was practically a diamond shape around my face when re-enacting the life of a Polish sister. We asked the sisters how they got it to not flop, and all they said was starch. We starched the heck out of that thing. Thankfully, I only had to wear it for an hour!

It's a lot of fun to dress up like a sister. I confess I still sometimes wear my bathtowel like a veil!

My hubby wanted to buy my sister a ruler to give her when she takes First Vows. She didn't find it nearly as hilarious as we did! :hehe:

I LOVE those salt and pepper shakers! When I was in Nashville visiting my sister, they had those in a gift shop downtown. I SO would've bought them, except they had the price jacked way up because there was a cheap sticker on it that said, "Nashville,TN."
