The most brilliant moral philosopher I've ever read. Like a firework show.

I actually read, After Virtue over the summer but just decided to make a thread about it now. He's a Marxist turned Catholic. Any of you heard of him/have any thoughts on him?

MacIntyre is a total stud. After Virtue rocked my world when I was an undergrad philosophy student.

MacIntyre is very much a genius.

I'm definitely not enamored by him, however. I disagree with some of his narrative. I particularly dislike his definition of "the good life."

I've been told that some of his short-comings in "After Virtue" are made up for in "Dependent Rational Animals" I've not yet read it, although I've considered purchasing a copy.

I'm not sure I'll bother, though. While MacIntyre is certainly a genius, I don't this his is the solution against modernity.

Has anyone read his multi volume exploration of Edith Stein? It's on my post grad school reading list. I was also adored After Virtue. It was the bright spot in my Contemporary Ethical Problems class in College.

It was a great blessing. I went from trying to pad my transcript with philosophy to reading Aristotle over the summer.
