And if you are in your mid to late twenties and live with parents, is it normal to have to plan ahead a couple of days for going out if it affects dinner plans?

If it's about your parents expecting you to have dinner with them, in my opinion if all you have to do is plan ahead a couple of days and they don't nag you for it, that's fine. I would try to get to the point where 1 day's warning is good enough, make sure you establish some distance between routines you might need for yourself and those that are the rule in their house. There's always some tension but it's better to let it happen slowly and always appreciate them counting on spending time with you daily.

Mid 20s, and when I lived with my parents before moving for school I tried to give them a few days notice ahead of time. I never really meet anyone, except new friends introduced by other friends when I go out though.
