I believe that it stays on in order to remind others of just how NOT lame and therefore serious this forum is!

Also, I dare say this because if I'm wrong there won't be anything left here to prove it! The other reason is because it also feels like payback for making me curious enough with that sub-title, then I click and find nothing... :owned:

Well, perhaps you consider it a serious question enough that its a real and not-lame conversation?

I was simply wondering as to whether, if not for the Eastern Schism, do you think our Macs would come standard with the Greek character set?

And if that were the case...

...well I've heard that QWERTY keyboard was designed the way it was because when typewriters came into existence the ABCDE... version resulted in broken keyboards due to typing speed. Apparently QWERTY resulted in a slower typing speed that didn't break the typewriter.

What on earth would the Greek equivalent of QWERTY be? Its not just as simple as transliterating character-to-character, because with the different vocabulary and the different character set, then the frequency with which each key would be required, and the combinations thereof, would be very different to our Latin character set...

Now you can see why I took it down

Forgive me if I'm being stupid, but shat do you mean by Eastern Schism? When I think of Schism, I think of the Church's Great Schism, so I don't know how that relates to keyboards.

I've seen a Japanese keyboard. On a Mac, too. It looks crazy. But I guess it works for them. I'm sure they figured out the best way to organize it like QWERTY keyboards. I guess it would be much the same with Greek.

There are different ways of typing in different alphabets on a Mac.... you just have to go to the international settings and learn how to do it. Like how I learned to type in Japanese with an English keyboard and can switch it now by just the click of a button.

Yo, this is some real Dominican stuff right here, those guys care about stuff noone else does... and then discover the secrets of the universe even while posting in random places!

Also, (@Chamomile) I think she meant to ask and think about what our culture would be like if we had incorporated more of the Eastern culture since the first millenium, for which the Great Schism definitely played a role. I think we're at a time of rediscovery and ressourcement... which I guess could also apply to keyboard design.

You go girl!
