Starets
i used to have a prayer corner in the living room of my apartment before I started my monastic life. I still have a prayer corner in my cell now, even though the Abbey Church is very close by.
Scrupulous
I have a small statue of the Virgin Mary in my room. I also have picture of Jesus and Mary and a bible by the side of my bed.
MissyP89
I have a picture of the Madonna and Child on the window sill right above my bed. I also keep a bottle of holy water there, and a wooden rosary around the bedpost. (Maybe that's why I can never get through it without falling asleep...) tnavarro61
I have a crucifix, a picture of Mother of Good Counsel and Blessed Charles of Jesus. These are all what I've got. My family puts flower garlands around the crucifix, and other statues (a common Filipino practice). @AudreyGrace, you are so blessed!!!
JenDeMaria
I turned the top of a dresser into a prayer corner. In theory, I'd like to keep a runner on it with the current liturgical colors, but I only ever seem to remember to alternate between the lavender of Lent/ Advent and the white of Christmas and Easter. I also keep waay too many prayer cards on it, along with my baptismal candle, a crucifix, St Joseph and the Blessed Virgin Mary, a picture of Pope Benedict praying (so that I'll remember to pray for his intentions and qualify for all the indulgences I might have recieved over the course of the day...). The various and sundry bits of Catholica that I gather to inspire me to pray always pile up too quickly and I'm ready to dismantle the whole thing and reorganize it every few months. When I was going through RCIA my prayer space was a great reminder of my commitment to the Faith. I'd wake up in the morning and ask myself "Is it worth it? Do I still want to convert to Catholicism, today?" and I'd look over at the picture I have of Jesus holding out his Sacred Heart and I'd think "YES! It's still worth it"
Tally Marx
My Prayer Place (if I can be said to have one) is on top of my bedside table. It holds my Bible and pictures of my grandparents and in the draw underneath are all my pamphlets about religious orders, and my Pieta booklet, and Examination of Conscience booklets, and my Little Office of the Blessed Virgin.... you get the idea. But, I have so many little statues of Mary and Busts of Christ and rosaries and prayer cards and saints pictures all over my room. The Prayer Place blends in with everything else! Mark of the Cross
This reminds me of my first awareness of God. Don't know how old I was, but it would have been single digits. The Italian girls next door made up a shrine. That looked like fun so I went and 'stole' some scrap pieces of steel from the nearby foundry. I wrapped them in coloured foil and made a shrine. I had no idea what I was doing but I knelt before it with hands together and had the most amesome feeling come over me. So powerful was the experience that from then on I never doubted the existence of God. My wife is a Filipina and we have a wood carving of the last supper and a most beautiful carving of Jesus which really captures the suffering he endured. We brought them from the Philippines. tnavarro61
[quote name='Mark of the Cross' timestamp='1296972883' post='2209253'] My wife is a Filipina and we have a wood carving of the last supper and a most beautiful carving of Jesus which really captures the suffering he endured. My personal prayer space consist of a wooden crucifix, an image of Blessed Charles and and image of Mother of Good Counsel. At my right, posted are The Little Mandate by Catherine Doherty, The Papal intentions of the month, and a a list made by Cardinal Newman for those who wish to be perfect. Under the table are my devotionals. It's a simple space, you wouldn't know it is a prayer space from afar.
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam
Since I am in grad school, I'm renting an apartment. The room I rent is from the diocese and it is in an old convent that the nuns don't use anymore. There are about 8 other students here renting rooms too. We have a chapel downstairs complete with stations of the cross, an altar, and stained glass windows....so yea I'm really blessed to have that to pray in. dominicansoul
I'm in the process of converting my late mother's bedroom into a "chapel." I have a huge image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and a huge image of Divine Mercy. I'd like a pre-dieu from MissScripture's dad, but I'm not sure how to order one from him. I also want to place a large book case in there filled with all sorts of religious books. (I lack in the religious books department.) This way, I can do my spiritual reading in there also. I'm going to fill that little chapel with incense and candles, and keep all my sacramentals in there. Its going to be a room the beast will definitely fear..... in the meantime, i'm not dis-assembling the little altar my mother made, that's been with us since we were kids. It holds her favorite statue of Our Lady of Grace. We used to use real candles, but my dad put up an electric one. i also have my mom's favorite statue of St. Anthony of Padua alongside Our Lady. And above them all, the Sacred Heart of Jesus. I'll keep that little altar present in our house until I die.....
