Canned Chicken...

I walked past canned chicken at the grocery store the other day. It occurred to me that in terms of creating an extensive pantry, the addition of canned chicken could either be useful or the most disgusting idea I've ever had...

So. Has anyone here ever had it? Is it okay? How different is it from getting chicken from the meat department or frozen food section?

My husband seemed kind of afraid when I mentioned the idea of bringing canned chicken into the house, hehe.

As a college student, canned chicken is one of the most useful items on my shelf. It's both versatile and delicious, not to mention inexpensive. But I'm focused more on easy/price rather than health, unfortunately.

i saw it one time, right next to canned tamales. I took a picture of it. I had never even heard of the concept.

I get the canned chicken sometimes (kind of like canned tuna, not like what Moosey posted... is that real??? It looks scary). Very good for adding to fast pasta meals, etc. Wouldn't make it a food group, though :)

OH my gosh. THIS is what you're talking about!?!? Nasty!

I thought you were talking about this, which is more like canned tuna, and slightly more appetizing:

I hope that isn't what they were talking about. It's what I visualized when rhetoricfemme said "canned chicken"

Yeah, I like what Dust had in mind much more, lol. Your whole canned chicken is going to give me nightmares.

Yeah, reading the first post, I wasn't sure if you were talking about Moosey's or dUSt's version of canned chicken. I wouldn't get Moosey's because, we'll... I think it speaks for itself. I do get the other kind, though-- the small tins like tuna. They're great for hotdishes and make pretty yummy chicken salad sandwiches...
