isn't there some controversy over naming one's guardian angel? I have never paid too much attention on the arguments, but I had heard that some think it's a bad thing to do...I never understood why, or what were their reasons or concerns...

Yes, I remember a thread like this before, and they talked about why you shouldn't...but I don't remember and I couldn't find the thread when I (briefly) looked for it.

4 reasons not to name or ask the name of your angel:

1. It is theologically inaccurate to name an angel ... they have offices, not names.
2. Speaking such a request into the world of spirits is iffy. You do not know who or what may answer you with a false name so as to have you calling out with that false name in your hour of need.
3. When we name something, we exert power and authority over it. It is God who has authority over angels, not us. Adam needed God's permission to name creatures
4. It is unnecessary. Speaking to "my guardian angel" is correct in referring to the angel's office, eliminates the possibility that some other kind of angel will respond, and gets the job done quite nicely.

I don't really see any harm in finding out the name of one's guardian angel. It's done nothing but help me. I have been advised by a very wise priest to ask for Jude's (my guardian angel) intercession. It has never failed me. As to what the excerpt Max posted from the Vatican website, it doesn't look like it's Church Doctrine to me so I don't think one would be in big trouble if they decided to name their guardian angel.

As far as i know it's discouraged to name your Guardian Angel.

"when the daily events of life, which have nothing or little to do with our progressive maturing on the journey towards Christ are read schematically or simplistically, indeed childishly, so as to ascribe all setbacks to the Devil and all success to the Guardian Angels. The practice of assigning names to the Holy Angels should be discouraged, except in the cases of Gabriel, Raphael and Michael whose names are contained in Holy Scripture."

Dominus pax, in accordace with the book of tobit there a seven angels that serve the throne(7 archs),7 colors of the rainbow,7 sacremnets, and i don't know how many more 7s in the bible, 70 times 7 times is similar. Also i saw god juggling 7 balls today in a cloud shape in the sky, he was having a joke with me about my preaching that we have three balls to juggle being love of god love of they neighbour and love of the self. I think he was showing me he has to juggle 7 lol having a go at me huh cheeky lordyo, straight after that i was cloud surfing again and there was a shap of a dinosaur and a dolphin appeard and flick it with its tail and the dinosaur turned into a dragon and turned around to attack the dolphin but the dolphin had turned inot a poisonous puffa fish and he was laughing and the dragon recoiled in shock and dissapeared.
God bless
