I'm Now 4 Foot Tall Again

After being on my feet for over 6 years, I am now back in a wheelchair. This time, it's temporary until my leg heals, but it was supposed to be temporary last time too, and it ended up being 8 long years. I'm trying to stay positive. I'm trying to surrender to the wishes of my doctor and husband. We had like 6 feet of snow followed by a week of above freezing temps which led to lots of ice. That's what I slipped on. The ice is still here, so no one wants me venturing out on it. So my husband has arranged for the disabled public transit to take me to school. He doesn't drive, so that's my option. I am dreading the spectacle of showing up for classes on Tuesday in a wheelchair being brought by the mini-bus, that may or may not actually arrive on time. The classes are so packed, that I don't know where I'm going to park the thing. I don't want people making fusses over me. My Confessors and Spiritual Directors have told me many times that accepting help is good for me. I just really hate it. I almost started crying when I opened the box that had my wheelchair gloves in it. I kept them as a reminder, not because I thought I'd need them again. I'm just trying to endure this with some of my dignity intact.

you definitely have my prayers for a speedy recovery. i hate being incapacitated, though i've never experienced it to the degree you have.

i guess you get to practice the virtues of humility and patience. just think of Jesus being helped by Simon of Cyrene or having his face wiped by Veronica. just a thought. :amen:

Prayers for you, and I will let my Dominican Sisters know as well so they will pray...

This time you have a praying cheerleading team behind you, a husband to love you, and plenty of practice as to what to do to take care of yourself.
Sends a hug, teas and strawberry scones.

The Dean of Students wants to assign a seminarian in each of my classes to serve as a minion. Although that could be fun in so many ways, I refused with a few choice expletives. It's actually not bothering me as bad right now. To be honest, the wheelchair is more comfortable than the hard seats we have in the classrooms. It's also helps that my leg is getting dramatically better. They have tweaked my medicine. My bottom half is twice as big as my top half because my lymphatic system got messed up when my back got hurt, so I have to take pills to keep them from swelling. The new meds have really helped to take the swelling down, and generally make my legs feel better. I'm thinking two weeks tops.

 You're going to turn down the offer of your own personal strapping young seminary lad to run menial errands, carry your books, wait on your every whim, and maybe act as an impromptu footstool??

I would have to echo Nihil's comments. Last time I went minion shopping, they were most def NOT cheap. Free minions are rare

(but i understand why you refuse them)

The Minion's Union is bleeding me dry. :weep: It's not easy to hire many minions these days. Gone are the halcyon James Bond days where any self-respecting villain had at least two dozen minions... and don't even get me started on the Henchmen's Guild!!! I'll be lucky if I can even afford one henchmen next quarter.
