southern california guy
How many of you guys are like me, and get excited when the latest Burpee's or Gurney's seed catalog arrives in the mail. You pour over the catalog and plan out your dream garden.. But everything looks so good, and you want to grow it all. Which are your favorite catalogs? I've heard of "Seed Savers Exchange". You know another great one is "Sand Hill Preservation Center" They have a huge list of varieties, a huge selection of sweet potatoes, and even chickens. I guess that they ship chickens through the mail. But you need some sort of a chicken brooder thing to keep the chicks warm when they get there, right? My mom bought some but she said that they were surprisingly expensive. With the climate here we could be growing them right now but shame on me I'm not.. cmotherofpirl
I get Burpees in my email every week - I grow the Cherokee, Krim and Belgian Pink. I am trying various kinds of peppers, haven't found exactly the ones I want though. I want something study to stuff but with a good sweet taste. I've heard of the Sand Hill people from gardening blogs and have checked out their website (pretty amesome!), I think we'll be ordering their catalog now. Shipping chicks in the mail is a pretty funny concept. LOL. It wouldn't be so bad if they just slept the whole time. Anyway, wow, their selection of birds is pretty impressive.
