Yea, basically.

Those sphinx cats are uber-cute though!!

I don't think I've ever thought a cat was cute.

Over the past three years I have done some research, and I have since discovered that Text Talk was invented by three groups of people:
1) those teenagers who wanted to disguise thier inappropriate conversations so that prying parents could not read them.
2) those kids who felt they couldn't use up their monthly limit of texts fast enough
3) thos ewho could not spell worth a bent penny and needed a valid excuse for their ignorance

with the last being the most influential.

Txt tlk is not an evolution of language; it is a devolution.

Oh heck no...Micah I know you are not complaining about the use of acronyms when you are guilty of this

I still haven't figured this one out. <_<

haha not just Americans. All English speakers have a lot of slang. It began with the overlap of English and Latin, and English and French. Scholars employed bits and pieces of these different languages where the English was inadequate to convey the proper meaning. It sort of assumed everyone spoke nominal French. Then England colonized 1/4 of the world, which led to a whole bunch of language mixing. Then in the modern age, English was adopted as the de facto language of international relations. So English has become somewhat of a malleable language.

Very academic, Micah! You will make a good professor!

I'm a nerd but I can't say lulz or teh anything with a straight face. ironically, lolcats make me laugh. Because it's cats... and if they were to talk, they might sound like that.

Look at me calling myself a nerd and talking about how I think cats would talk... I'm awesome!

That may very well be true, but it seems to be catching on. Time will tell of course, but we may see some serious changes in language due to texting and internet chat.

you know who you are

But seriously, last night someone said IDK in chat. And I just saw someone (Nick) say AFAIK. Seriously?? AFAIK?? Why can't we just write I don't know, or as far as I know. Because whenever I read those I don't spell it out--I actually think eye-dik and ah-faike. <_<
