southern california guy
Down here in paradise (Southern California) we grow a fruit called a "cherimoya". It looks like this. And this. And this. They are a very sweet tropical fruit. You scoop the custard like flesh out with a spoon. I think that they're absolutely delicious -- but some people find them a little too sweet. I'm growing this type this year. It's supposed to have a little bit of a raspberry flavor. Annona diversifolia ("Illama") is even better. They grow in the south of Mexico and they also have a raspberry like flavor. Tragically my tree died a couple of years ago... They look like this: Rollinia deliciosa is another popular Annona. It's supposed to taste like a very good lemon meringue pie, or lemon sherbet. I have one of these trees but it's still small. Here's what the fruit looks like: I suppose you wonder why I'm posting this now. I'm posting this now because the first fruit are just starting to ripen! Edited January 19, 2011 by southern california guy

That's a hardy Annona relative. MIKolbe
interestingly, i do not think so. the fruit, on the whole, is not as good as it is in southern CA. I bought a mango, both in and out of season....they both tasted the same.. like nothing... plus, the fruit is more expensive here. and their oranges are no bueno. and they sell garlic by the pound, not by the bulb. and their spinach is crazy expensive. potatoes are cheaper, though. they had some star fruit that didn't even look good. tnavarro61
it's somehow similar to Atis fruit:

homeschoolmom
Those things look freakish and weird... Now, in the north, we grow a fish called "lutefisk"... you can eat its custard-like flesh with a spoon. Nobody finds them too sweet.

It's Annona squarmosa. I've also heard it called a "sugar apple". Some of my friends grow those.

Our winters are a little too cold for them. They are very tropical.
