socalscout
I like Ghost Hunters as they seem to be the most objective and less annoying. I am a grown man and I don't care to watch "A Haunting" by myself. It is too creepy. I cannot stand Ghost Adventures because all that guy does is where tight t-shirts and cuss at the ghosts as if he were starting a fist fight. I did see this episode, however, where there might have been some demonic entities in a bar and he, his crew and a bunch of guests all experienced some kind of negative paranormal activity for weeks after they got home . This idiot still goes back and taunts the same entities then brings back a bishop(I doubt he was Catholic) to try to exercise them. Papist
No. I really don't see the point or entertainment value of these programs.
dominicansoul
its extremely dangerous to go "hunting" after spirits, especially spirits from hell...
Nihil Obstat
I don't watch these shows anymore because too often they parade in some 'spiritist', or worse, have a seance, which can do nothing other than make things worse. Seeing those people disturbs me.
HisChildForever
My dad likes to watch "Ghost Hunters" from time to time. It is an objective show, like you said. If the home owner reports hearing a noise coming from the basement, for example, the team will go into the basement and examine the pipes - they might even turn the water on and off, mess with the temperature of the house, etc. - and when they determine that there is no logical explanation for it (say the noise happens at the same time every night) they will investigate it from a supernatural standpoint. I find that to be more rational and interesting than that other show you mentioned ("Ghost Adventurers") because the latter seems to be dramatic for the sake of ratings. However, even though the ghost hunter team approaches each situation with a healthy dose of skepticism plus the openness of belief, they really have no clue what they are getting into. A family is sent to "Dracula's Castle" or some other famous (and old) building that is supposedly haunted and are left there for the night. I remember one episode, a family was instructed to take place in a ritual before entering the building - some kind of protection spell. Ridiculous, that kind of stuff would only make the family more susceptible to any evil inside the place.
Catholictothecore
I don't like Ghost Hunters because it seems so fake. They have all this fancy recording equipment and they never really let you see anything, they just turn a corner and someone screams. It just dosen't strike me as convincing at all... I've never seen Ghost Adventurers.
Hm, I am not sure what episodes you have watched (or missed for that matter). At the end of each episode, a couple of the members sit down with the person who asked them to investigate their house, workplace, restaurant, whatever, and they explain to the person that "the noises you heard were actually groaning old pipes" but they also show them video feed and even audio feed that they could not figure out or explain. I have never actually seen an episode where the team declares a place is "haunted", they always say "we have no explanation for this". (Not that I have really watched a lot of this stuff, I just catch it when my dad has it on like I said lol.)

Ash Wednesday
I used to, but got completely bored of them. I do believe some events that happen to people are legitimate though not explainable, but with these shows it seems like everything is "ghostly evidence" and I'm not really convinced. If anything, watching these shows made me more skeptical of "evidence."
Ed Normile
These shows are nothing less than dangerous, especially to children and the impressionable. All christian religions recognise that a soul is judged at their death, what does that leave for you to contact but demons? There is no poor soul with unfinished business, a soul that decides not to go into the light as it wants to warn somebody or give some message, a soul that supercedes the will of God. This stuff is as hazardous as using a ouija board. There is one I seen advertised almost a year ago when I posted a similiar thread in here about psychic kids, deranged parents who were feeding the delusion in their child that they could contact spirits and help them, they had seances with these children, used pentagrams and salt circles to keep evil at bay, there was another one advertised at the same time about a group of school students from some pennsylvania college, called something like Pa. paranormal investigators, I can not recall it now, this idiot had found some weak priest who wanted TV time and fame who actually went out to drive evil spirits from homes, they claimed he was a catholic priest. This is dangerous ground they tread, whats the old saying, geniuses rush in where angels fear to trod. If you are interested the Catechism of the Catholic Church has many passages about these things, seances, divination, contacting spirits, horoscopes, all completely sinful and not allowed for catholics even if tried with the intent of helping someone or some thing. Avoid this stuff like the plague, in an age where people go to church and worry if they will catch disease from the Sacrament they ignore the real danger to their souls which is present in dangerous practises such as these shows glorify. ed

We do have stories about this happening. However I agree in principle with your post. In many cases real haunting activity will be demonic in nature. I doubt that God would let a ghost that hung himself over his girlfriends untimely death, or a ghost of a person killed in a castle siege to just bypass judgement so they can scare people. ed
