Jesus_lol
I wonder if metal and black metal would even have the Satanic undertones without the Scandinavian influence.
I dunno, but the general public would still think they were satanic. People have been wrongfully freaking out about each and every band with distorted guitars(and before that, electric guitars) being satanic, basically since rock began. since "rock around the clock" people have been freaking out at everyband that gets a little heavier. hence Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden both being mistakenly thought of a Satanic, whereas if anything the opposite is true. Not all black metal bands are satanic though. the vast majority are just non christian, or anti christian/athiest/pagan etc. even Some of the most influential early BM bands arent satanic(Immortal, for instance. though all the pictures of them are as silly as hell ) Edited January 19, 2011 by Jesus_lol
BigJon16
I remember my grandmother telling me stories about an old lady who used to read palms and such back in the day. My great grandparents didn't let her or any of her siblings have any contact with said lady though. They were very superstitious old Italians. And they were very loyal to the church, as I try to be. My father has told me stories about when he first got married to his ex-wife and they had my older brother, they had a dog, and some of the old-timers told them to get rid of the dog because it would get jealous and try to kill the baby. It never happened, but was just a random superstition. They had all sorts of old superstition, and I wish I could remember some of them, but alas, my grandparents passed away along time ago, when I was much younger than I am now. As for Ouija boards, my mother had one when she was young, and when my grandparents owned a restaurant at our camp. She was using it with one of her cousins and one of the waiters, a new guy whom they didn't really know at all, saw them and told them to ask it what his mothers maiden name was. They did and not only did it spell it out to them, but it was in the proper Italian spelling. The guy got really freaked out and left and they never touched the board again. Now as for the occult, that "The Rite" movie, with Anthony Hopkins, looks pretty interesting.
Nihil Obstat
Now as for the occult, that "The Rite" movie, with Anthony Hopkins, looks pretty interesting.
The Rite is based on the recent book "The Rite: Making of a Modern Exorcist", which was written by a Catholic Italian journalist (Baglio?) who spent some time with Italian exorcist priests. It was ok. The movie might be better, if less factual. Edited January 19, 2011 by Nihil Obstat
Mark of the Cross
So yes, to answer your question, someone could curse you. This is not superstition. This is simply the spiritual warfare that we face as fallen creatures afflicted by the devil.
How do I get rid of this curse? Seriously though, I would imagine that there is great psychological danger for people to be preoccupied with such things and people would be well advised to not read about exorcism or anything to do with the occult good or bad. It is better to just take the attitude that they do not exist even if they do. The devil is tricky. Things happen to us everyday that seems as if the world is against us, like I drive up to a quiet intersection and wait for 15 cars to cross. After I've crossed there is not a car in sight. In the supermarket as soon as I pause to look at something, 5 people want to get there. I must have a magnetic personality, people seem to want to walk into me instead of around. I didn't think that I was that obese. And there is always a rush for the checkout chick when I decide to go. Are these experiences normal for everyone? Children seem to see things invisible to adults, like I was vacuuming the church before a funeral, not mine! A lady with small children came in to pray, I greeted them, the elder child about 5 or 6, Winchesters age anyway, at first shied from me which children usually do. After that until she left, she seemed transfixed and kept staring at me as if she could see something invisible. It made me feel creepy because I thought she may have seen something evil. You better not tell me I'm silly sometimes or I'll put a curse on you!
To build on what Nihil said, yes, objects can be connected with demonic power.
You'd need a gallon of Chamomile after vomiting nails!
I forgot to add something:
That's reserved for us old people!
