A Argument For Repealing Communion In The Hand.

Actually with the old traditional altar communion rail there would only be one altar boy and one priest needed, and it would be much faster than the whole EMHC mess. There would be no need for the EMHC's to assemble on the altar and then each be served by the priest, and the Sacrament to be divided into seperate chalices, and of course it would eliminate those who jump from the line being serviced by the EMHC to get into the priests line, something I have seen a bunch. I remeber the communion rail, maybe 35-40 people approach and kneel, the priest move along and distribute communion, very fast and efficient, very reverant, and even if the host should fall, it would not be on the floor where parishioners walk, it would be on the reserved area where only the priest and altar boys walk, no chance of it getting stepped on by a parishioner.

For those of us medically incapable of kneeling, the rail isn't something I want to see returning. I suppose I could stand at the opening.

An exception would be made for you and for others who cannot kneel. I attended a High Mass on Christmas Eve, and before the start of the Mass the deacon made the announcement that those unable to kneel are welcome to stand near the rail or at the opening.

When I was a kid, our parish always used the paten. Problems with 'drops' and things were unheard of. Then, years later, I went to a parish where they just 'gave up' on the paten, ('because everyone receives in the hand,' as the priest said at a Teaching Mass- um, well, I don't) and a few times a year, you got to see horrific fumbles and no one knowing what to do about it. I had wondered if they didn't use the paten just because it would have cost too much. I was even getting ready to buy one for them. The real reason turned out to be much more disappointing.

Those who have been unable to kneel have always been among us, as have those who are unable to stand, yet they still receive the Eucharist in their wheel chairs. The point being, we do not decide such postures based on such things. There are always legitimate exceptions, and that is fine.

Yeah, I know. I just hate standing out like a sore thumb. Not that I can exactly blend in, but I just hate seeing pity in people's eyes.

You can always punch them...should eliminate any pity.

What I remeber was the priest walking over to the disabled in wheelchairs or setting and distributing communion to them.
