Here are some more books on the liturgy that have not yet been mentioned:

-- Architecture in Communion, by Steven J. Schloeder
-- Celebrating the Holy Eucharist, by Francis Cardinal Arinze
-- Reform of the Reform? A Liturgical Debate, by Fr. Thomas Kocik
-- The History and Future of the Roman Liturgy, by Denis Crouan
-- The Liturgy After Vatican II, by Denis Crouan
-- The Liturgy Betrayed, by Denis Crouan
-- The Mass and Modernity, by Fr. Jonathan Robinson
-- The Old Mass and the New, by Bishop Marc Aillet

L_D has probably read more of these than I have and so can tell you which ones (if any) are "must-haves".

Phatcatholic!!!!! Awesome!!!

Only thing I'd say is that I'm not a fan of Denis Crouan for various reasons and I don't generally recommend his books. I think his overall approach is pretty dated in light of the motu proprio and compared to many other books by the same publisher (Ignatius Press) his are at times superficial.

Architecture in Communion is one that I've not read but I've heard good things about it. Have you had a chance to read this one yet? What do you think of it? Reform of the Reform? is another one that I've wanted to read for a while but still have not done so. What u say?

Peace.

Architecture in Communion is a great book, but Denis McNamera's is by far my favorite after Spirit of the Liturgy. The Old Mass and New def deserves an honorable mention.

Catholic University of America has an MA program in Liturgical Studies. If you go on their website, you can actually see the booklist used by the students on a PDF. I'd imagine the books on that list have scholarly value.

I'm not liking our textbook on the development of the liturgy since the earliest days of the Church for my class on the Eucharist. We're reading, "From Age to Age" by Foley. Just because it has a nihil obstat doesn't mean that it really is worth it.
