Nihil Obstat
That is correct. If God does not want it to happen, it will not happen, because such an act is infallible. Which is why, once it is done, I will say nothing more.
That is to say that his canonization would be infallible.
Siena
I wish the canonization process would never have been sped up. I am sorry to see B16 continuing the practice, frankly.

Siena
The earlier practice had moved much more slowly than it did under JP2; to take such a big step slowly seems a wise thing, imo.
Sarah147
It is sooooo awesome and I am not at all surprised that he is a Saint. I am surprised that they rushed this.
fides quarens intellectum
On some more traditionalist-minded forums I occasionally peruse, SSPX attendees and supporters never have anything good to say about John Paul II, but now the vitriol and outright hate is really coming out among them. What's worse is that I've also seen some posts from diocesan, FSSP, and/or ICRSS Latin Mass attendees who say they will switch to the SSPX or SSPV if John Paul II gets beatified and/or canonized. Oh well. May the door not hit them in the butt on the way out the door.
Okay, call me naive, but when I saw this post, i really just didn't understand why any Catholic would be like that in response to this news. I asked my husband why what you were saying might be the case, and he was surprised too, and said maybe we're not giving those Catholics the benefit of the doubt. Not that he thought you were intentionally misrepresenting things, but that maybe there was some sort of misunderstanding. It still bothered me, so I began to search around a bit online to see what you might be talking about. I did find a few so-called traditional Catholic forums (although I am not sure what is so traditional about Catholics bashing a pope), and, yes, "vitriol and outright hate" is completely spot-on. It all just made me really, really sad. I just don't understand how a Catholic could say terrible comments about JPII that I would be uncomfortable quoting here. As my husband said, as Catholics, we should be rejoicing any time someone is beatified or canonized by Mother Church. Praise the Lord for Phatmass. I am so happy I have a Catholic forum that I can go to without having to read through a bunch of anti-papal negativity from fellow Catholics. btw: i would not suggest anyone going to look for such comments themselves - it just made me sad, and it probably would have been better if I had simply taken Dave at his word without reading the comments myself. Anyway, we watched the JPII movie starring Cary Elwes last night, and it just made me want to go back and read some more of Pope John Paul II's wonderful writings. Yay! I'm looking forward to the beatification!!

LinaSt.Cecilia2772
What i loved about John Paul II the most was his love and emphasis on the youth of the church. He made it clear on how youth are the future of the church, and it made me want to become a better Catholic and a better example of the church. He is my Hero and i'm soooooo happy about his beatification. Thanks be to God for this wonderful Man of Christ and His work as the Pope.
Sarah147
I'm so very thankful for our modern day Saints and to-be Saints... Mother Teresa of Calcuta, Pope John Paul II, Mother Angelica, Saint Josemaria Escriva, etc. I connect better to more current people that I've seen (TV, etc.). I don't see how people manage to maintain that contradiction. "More Catholic than the Pope" is supposed to be a JOKE. Going to a big beatification/Mercy Sunday event (with a relic of St. Faustina!) at a nearby Polish parish tomorrow. Whee!

OnlySunshine
Aw, man. I might not get to watch all of it live then. I have DSL so I could watch it on EWTN.com, but I probably will have to go to sleep before the actual Mass starts.
