dominicansoul
watching this video of him in his weak, ill body...I can't help but think of all that he had to suffer in his lifetime, more as Pope than anything... Pope John Paul II, We love You!
goldenchild17
Fr. Z had some thoughts regarding the speed of many beatifications/canonizations in recent years that I found worth consideration. I don't know enough to say that this is the whole reason. The removal of a devil's advocate probably plays a certain role as well even though I'm sure there are still people within the process who check the negative claims/evidence against canonization. But something to thinking about: http://wdtprs.com/blog/2011/01/observations-about-the-speed-of-some-causes-for-beatification/

Nihil Obstat
I am worried that John Paul II's cause for canonization is being rushed. There are many many worthy people to be investigated, such as Bl. Mother Teresa, Bl. Louis and Zelie Martin, and Servant of God Archbishop Fulton Sheen. I'm not saying that John Paul doesn't deserve this. Far from it. I trust the Church's judgement. However I worry because it feels almost as if the process is being expedited for no other reason than John Paul II is still a popular Catholic figure. kafka
I was ecstatic when I heard the news. The Vatican has issued an open invitation to all the faithful: http://www.upi.com/Top_News/World-News/2011/01/19/John-Paul-II-beatification-open-to-all/UPI-65961295471401/

God could care less about popularity. Since the Almighty God worked a miracle through Pope JP's intercession, in such a short time, it is heaven's way of saying, "Santo Subito!" I think talking canonization is premature. However, if he does get to cut in line to be canonized, my feelings won't be hurt. I love John Paul II. His Theology of the Body changed my world. When it came down to faith and morals, he was spot on. Edited January 20, 2011 by Papist
kafka
I think there is more to this beautification than mere human order, rules, wisdom, customs, decisions etc. There is the Spirit guiding the Church. There is Divine Providence which transcends rules and customs of the past. This one is unique I think.

The only worry I have is that the human aspect (i.e. popular pressure, maybe those in charge of the Cause) could be obscuring the supernatural aspect. As I said in the past, I will trust in the Church's decisions and you will hear nothing other than complete support from me when the decisions are made. If God does not want it to happen, it will not happen, because such an act is infallible. Which is why, once it is done, I will say nothing more.
