Lisa
When Saint Patricks Day is on a Friday, do Irish people get a special dispensation to eat corned beef? (halfway serious here). Or do they just drink all day and eat their beef on Thursday/Saturday? I simply must know.

krissylou
When Saint Patricks Day is on a Friday, do Irish people get a special dispensation to eat corned beef?
I think it is pretty automatic that there is a dispensation for your patron's feast day. So, I have no idea when the Feast of St. Benedict is, but that would be a feast day for Benedictine monasteries, regardless of when in the liturgical calendar it falls. St. Patrick is the patron of Boston, so we get a dispensation. (Admittedly, this one got a bit out of hand.) Also, I have heard, and this may be wrong, that Corned Beef and Cabbage is way more Irish-American than Irish-Irish. The Irish in Ireland had a diet that ran much more to "cabbage and cabbage" than "beef and cabbage."
