Brother Adam
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/01/07/passport-applications-soon-gender-neutral/ This is still clearly discriminatory. What about Mormon and Muslim homes with more than 2 parents? Clearly government documents need to have more than Parent 1 and Parent 2. They should list spots for at least 10 parents so they do not offend anyone, because I am deeply offended for our polygamist families.
rachael
But aren't you offended by polygamist families? Or, hold an issue with them? Bah, someone will always be offended. Edited January 7, 2011 by rachael

CatherineM
I don't like inclusive language. Is it only English-speakers who feel the need for such silliness? As I often say, I am a woman, not a woperson.

I am sorry if you are not a woman, I thought by the name and the quip about "riding side saddle" etc. you offered that you were indeed a woman, and I know you are intelligent enough to know that the term I used really did mean a female human being, so I am lost. ed
The forms are probably changed to reflect the fact that gay marriage and adoption is allowed in some regions of the United States. The change then has nothing to do with avoiding offense but rather to simply reflect changing legal realities in the United States. There would be no reason to have more than two blocks because polygamy is illegal everywhere in the US. Maybe polygamy should be legal. But that is a question of politics, not something that those who implement policy have anything to do with. By the way, the Mormons changed their mind on polygamy in order to get Utah into the Union. Only fundamentalist sects that broke off from LDS continue the practice. Of course, most Muslim households are monogamous.

If even one person practices it, it is discriminatory not to make it legal. Same with bestiality. The government does not belong in the bedroom or the barnyard. Winchester
I understand that this is an attempt at parody but it is a poor one. I have heard no one argue that gay marriage or polygamy ought to be legal because one person practices it.
That's because those who advocate gay marriage don't think about their arguments and nobody challenges them to expand the argument or state it correctly. It is clear that all forms of marriage between consenting parties (and I choose "parties" intentionally, since age discrimination is wrong) should be recognized and supported via special economic means by the government. The limit to one spouse is obviously a civil rights violation, as is the law against incest.
