Micah
tradition holds that the high priests of the Sadducees sealed the tomb of Christ with a public seal, called the sphragisantes ton lithon. This seal was set in place in order to prevent the Apostles stealing Jesus' body. However, it only served to strengthen the case of Jesus' resurrection. Micah
Yeah I would assume so, though I'm not sure where they would they would put it. The Catholic reference is vague, but in the Torah the tradition is traced back to the book of Daniel. I'll pull up what info I can tmr after my dreaded dental appointment. >_<
BigJon16
That's neat. What was the seal traditionally made of? --Big Jon

Micah
Nope, it's an example of a ancient seal probably 500 ish years prior to Christ used on tombs. I would assume it's made out of clay. Mud wouldn't work for stamping anything into it. So Haydock cites Jansensius as his source, but I'm too lazy to find out where. What I did do however was pull up a Greek version of Matthew chapter 27 where the tomb is sealed, and lo and behold the word Matthew used for seal was sphragisantes ton lithon.
