pj,

Why don't you try posts with one topic at a time, putting things in your own words rather than copy and paste. We've got lots of time. You don't have to convert us all by midnight or we turn in to pumpkins. I'm not going to bother reading your dumptrucks and I suspect most others won't read them either. I will skim them for the most easily refuted nonsense (not to be confused with the only easily refuted nonsense). I'm just sayin.

This could be a new experience for me. I have yet to meet an apostle of Jack Chick that can enter into a conversation about one single topic, stay on that topic, and display independent thought. Ironically, encounters with Chick followers many years ago helped deepen my faith. Every time I was presented with a Chick-ism, I would do independent research to evaluate the claim. At first I was a little surprised that the teachings of the Holy Catholic Church were consistently supported by scripture and writings of early Christians. Over time, through many different experiences, I came to trust the authority of the church. Chick made me a better Catholic.

That's just proof that God can really work all things together for good. :)

Personally, I like Bailleys, but am not a fan of Kahlua. Any suggestions?

As for Chick....I've always wanted to make my own little cartoon pamphlet about the moment of his death. Not to be vindictive, but to have an opportunity to demonstrate the truths of the Catholic faith. There are plenty of people who mock him, but I wanted to...demolish him.

It would begin with him in a hospital bed, with his family gathered round, and the nurse letting them know there isn't much time left. He would, presumably, take the opportunity to state something about his own beliefs. (His characters always suffer sudden deaths without the opportunity to repent or say goodbye - I wanted to be kinder.)

In the next panel, his soul would leave his body while his family cried. (I'm not being vindictive, really.....)

I'd want to have St. Peter as the gatekeeper, of course - can't miss that opportunity! Just a quick check of his name in the book, and then sending him in like a receptionist.

Then, he'd meet God, who would not be a faceless old guy on a throne. I wanted to go for the Book of Revelations description - lots of color and personality! So, the throne is made of emerald with a rainbow behind it, and there's a sea of glass and living creatures and angels and people with thrones and crowns and white robes....

After death is judgment, so we'd get a bit of that, but he'd be surprised to find out that the criteria aren't what he thought they were.

And here's the part where I get stuck. What I want to write isn't quite orthodox, so it defeats the whole purpose. Does anyone here have a suggestion for an 'alternative ending'?

My first thought was for God to explain the parable about 'whatsoever you do for the least of these' to explain what it means to truly be a follower of Jesus. And then, of course, he could be found wanting and ka-put, that's the end of it. But that was just vindictive, so I moved on to ending number 2. In this case, God welcomes Jack Chick into heaven, but upon discovering that there are *gasp* other people there, he gets up in a huff and voluntarily leaves. His parting shot would be something about rather being alone than to share heaven with the likes of them....and then an angel could comment that hell is very lonely. The third version was the one that made me pause and consider orthodoxy. Here, God explains to Jack Chick the error of his ways. Then, rather than condemning him, he gives him a second chance. Basically a, 'knowing what you know now....' opportunity to come on board. Chick is offended by this appearance of mercy, and rejects the offer, thus condemning himself. I know that is one thing Chick has right - your life is your life and that's the only chance you get - because Jesus' parable about Lazarus and the rich man makes that very point. So, it wouldn't be good to mock him for a kernel of truth....but it was the best idea I had.

Basically, in no case does he end up in heaven, which makes me suspect that maybe I really was being vindictive all along. So, I haven't decided whether or not I can actually write this in good conscience. Because, at the end of the day, it is important that I turn that same scrutiny on myself, lest my own soul be lost. That, and I'm a dismal artist, so I could hardly do it justice in cartoon format.
