This is one of the issues with crowdsourcing. Pepsi is receiving press from this in the ad trades. Pepsi had nothing to do with the spot as it was created by a production house seeking and receiving some press. This is having an negative impact on the company as many are not seeking out whether they did it or not.

When it was first posted, I wanted to say it would never run. Products don't want to choose sides, they want to sell product. Offending any faith is no way to get sales. Press maybe, but not sales.

You can see some of the press it received from Adweek here: http://adweek.blogs.com/adfreak/2011/01/crash-the-super-bowl-ad-just-a-tad-ungodly.html

It is a bad ad with a bad concept.
Thank you for contacting us at PepsiCo to share your sincere thoughts.

We want to reassure you that the commercial you cited was not one conceived and produced by PepsiCo, and it never aired on television. Rather, it was a consumer submission in our web-based Crash the Super Bowl promotion, in which participants can upload their own 30-second spots for Doritos tortilla chips or Pepsi MAX to be considered for broadcast during Super Bowl XLV.

We announced the contest finalists this morning and this consumer submission is not included in that selection. We hope you are further reassured to know that this consumer submission will not be aired during the Super Bowl, nor will it be included in any other Doritos or Pepsi MAX marketing programs in the future.

We apologize if you were upset or offended by this consumer submission, and we will share your feedback with our marketing teams so they can be aware of your concerns.

Thanks again for taking the time to write.

I remember that Life Decisions International had PepsiCo listed on their "boycott" list many years back -- but that more recently they have removed them since they no longer give to Planned Parenthood (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Good to know about PepsiCo, but every year the list comes out I'm always surprised by many of the companies listed. It's sad. I know some people don't agree with the boycott list, but I'm quite sure Life Decisions International lists companies that directly give money to Planned Parenthood, and not just indirectly. For those interested, their website is http://www.fightpp.org/

The whole idea of the ad was really stupid, and shame on the person or people who conceived it.

[tangent]Why the HELL do so many places give to planned parenthood? It doesn't even make sense. I mean I'm pretty cynical and all but even disregarding the immorality of the whole thing it still doesn't make sense. If I found out just as many companies donated to hmmmm, let's say the SPCA or something, I would still think it's weird. I don't understand Big Business at all! There's a whole lot of string-pulling and arse kissing and backbiting and handshaking and I''ll readily admit it's way beyond me.

I guess I'll never be a CEO of anything. Thank God.
2148 Blasphemy is directly opposed to the second commandment. It consists in uttering against God - inwardly or outwardly - words of hatred, reproach, or defiance; in speaking ill of God; in failing in respect toward him in one's speech; in misusing God's name. St. James condemns those "who blaspheme that honorable name [of Jesus] by which you are called." The prohibition of blasphemy extends to language against Christ's Church, the saints, and sacred things. It is also blasphemous to make use of God's name to cover up criminal practices, to reduce peoples to servitude, to torture persons or put them to death. The misuse of God's name to commit a crime can provoke others to repudiate religion.

Blasphemy is contrary to the respect due God and his holy name. It is in itself a grave sin.
I haven't watched it yet, but based on the description sounds like it is just a joke, and a sad commentary on America's lack of Faith. I see nothing that violates paragraph 2148

Hmmmmm.... so I was on a website that is quite negative on the Novus Ordo Mass, and it has pictures of all sorts of illicit and invalid Masses (e.g. - people dressed as clowns, using puppets, etc.). These look like real pictures, and I don't know why or how anyone would stage this. I know I've seen a Youtube video of at least one.

They actually have a few Masses (I guess they would really be "Masses") listed where the priest uses invalid material... like a Dorito, coffee, peanut butter cookie, and bologna sandwich to "consecrate." Seriously.

I'm not going to provide a link since it's a schismatic website that I just use for the dates of the traditional calendar... which I should actually find a new one of those online now that I've delved a bit further into the site's content...

Anyways, this is just to say that this ad, which is a mockery of the Faith, should make us realize how important the Mass is, and that if we stand up to sign such a petition, we should pray and speak out for the proper offering of and catechesis about the Holy Sacrifice.

Signed.

I don't care for Pepsi. I doubt my Coca-Cola would pull something like this.

Coca-Cola was Hitler's favorite drink, and the company supplied him all he could drink free of charge.

Well, I had emailed Pepsi back when this was posted, and I got this response from the company:
