Ask Pepsi-Doritos To Reject A Commercial That Blasphemes

Haven't posted in a while, but found this posted on another website and knew you all would vote.

Pepsi and Doritos offer 5 million dollars to the person who submits the winning commercial for the 2011 Super Bowl.

All submissions are reviewed and 10 finalists will be selected on January 3rd. Then the voting is open to the public on USA Today Ad Meter. As I said, the winner gets 5 million, so big dollars are riding on this contest.

A terribly blasphemous commercial was submitted. It is called "Feed the Flock," and shows a parish where attendance is dropping. The priest decides to distribute Doritos and Pepsi as Holy Communion to bring in the people.

Then weird looking people show up to receive the Holy Eucharist, which is really Pepsi and Doritos!

This mockery of the Body and Blood of Our Lord is outrageous and unacceptable!

Ever heard of the Barbara Streisand Effect? the more you try to suppress something, the more popular and well known it gets?

It might be better to leave this entry to die as one of many forgettable entries to an online contest, rather than give this one the publicity and word of mouth it needs to win the contest.

it looks more like a protestant service than a Catholic Mass...and as we all know, the protestants feed their flock crackers and welch's grape fruit juice on a regular basis...in this commercial, there is even a female minister passing out the Doritos...and we don't have female ministers in white cassocks....

i think "parishoner" is a Catholic term, that seems to be the only thing Catholic about this commercial...

i signed it anyway, because, even if it doesn't seem all that Catholic to me, the commercial still seems to have enough Catholic references, mixed in with protestant and several other denominations...

...sort of like an "equal opportunity" offender, as one commentator put it on the American Papist blog...

Just curious as to why her name is attached to that concept?

from wiki
"The Streisand effect is a primarily online phenomenon in which an attempt to hide or remove a piece of information has the unintended consequence of perversely causing the information to be publicized more widely and to a greater extent than would have occurred if no contrary action had been attempted. It is named after American entertainer Barbra Streisand, following a 2003 incident in which her attempts to suppress photographs of her residence inadvertently generated further publicity. As early as 1993, John Gilmore observed that "the Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it."[sup][1][/sup] Examples of such attempts include actions against photographs, numbers, files or websites (for example via a cease-and-desist letter). Instead of being suppressed, the information receives extensive publicity, often being widely mirrored across the Internet or distributed on filesharing networks."

I agree with this viewpoint. I remember Billy Joel thanking the Church for lambasting his song "Only the Good Die Young," as it sold a lot of records for him.

And as more than one priest responded to querents whimpering "What are we supposed to do about The Da Vinci Code?" "Why do anything about it? It's a work of fiction. We don't have to answer for it." All the hub-bub just drummed up more support for the film. Ignore it, and it will go away. You can't make anyone respect the Eucharist by signing a petition or by staging a boycott. I haven't knowingly bought Frito-Lay products in at least a couple of years, since Doritos gave some award to an emotional, irrational boy who was running a campaign to ban firearms. I'm not refusing to buy because I'm trying to change their viewpoint, inspire anyone, or "start a movement." I'm refusing to buy because I personally refuse to give a dime to Frito-Lay. When I buy a bag of chips, I want to pay for a bag of chips, not for any asinine viewpoints printed on the chip bag.

what people are also forgetting is that the commercial in question was submitted by someone not in the employ of Frito Lay. unless they decide to go with that commercial, they are really not to blame for its existence at all.

Signed.

I don't care for Pepsi. I doubt my Coca-Cola would pull something like this.

Pepsi has not done anything here...

its a user submitted commercial that has not been chosen or rejected afaik.

currently its a piece of fanfiction that does not reflect on the original.
