ironmonk
St. John 3:14 And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, *Lifted up: in Numbers 21:9 Moses simply "mounted" a serpent upon a pole. John here substitutes a verb implying glorification. Jesus, exalted to glory at his cross and resurrection, represents healing for all. Not only the Crucifixion, but the Crucifix itself... Catholics look toward the Crucifix to be healed, just as the Jews looked toward the serpent of Moses. The Crucifix reminds us of what Christ did, and strengthens our faith. Christ's Church is such a gift... God has given us so many things to touch all of our senses to build faith in Him. God Bless, ironmonk

ironmonk
Looked at the daily reading, then thought of the Crucifix, then thought of the anti-Catholic attacks about the Crucifix and realized that I had never seen this verse used to show what Christ's Church teaches... then BAM! Got all excited, did a little dance, and got down to typing. God Bless, ironmonk Edited April 20, 2004 by ironmonk
