Cat. I'm not sure how much work, that will be, but it shouldn't be to bad. Honors would be manageable, I would think. : ) Just depends on your academic work ethic....mine isn't so good.
Newman Theological College. It is affiliated with St. Joseph's Seminary that trains almost all the priests in Western Canada. Edmonton is the farthest north of any major city [over 1,000,000 people] in North America. We were the 2nd coldest place in the world for a day a month ago. The discalced orders here are hard core. Sarah147
What do you mean by "better"? Having some experience with both FUS and Christendom I'd say they are both 100% orthodox, so the only thing I can think of that you would say is "better" is (for lack of a better word) the lifestyle on campus, which is kind of subjective... just curious as to what you meant. ETA: FUS does also provide more majors, so I can see why a lot of people would choose that school over other orthodox Catholic alternatives.
Yeah, I'd say the campus life, notable EWTN people, more advertising on EWTN, I've heard good things about it; overall, it just comes across as better to me. I've never visited any of those schools personally, though. Bah humbug. Schooling is a tough one for me; I mean with my ADHD and fatigue problem, it's hard to keep on it and get to it early. And make it through alive! Edited December 30, 2010 by JoyfulLife
IgnatiusofLoyola
From the posts, I thought EVERYONE on Phatmass who is in college goes to FUS. (Well, except maybe the Canadians. I don't think FUS has a major in being a lumberjack, getting drunk and having bar fights, and spelling funny. Plus, Canadians go to university not college.) I'd never heard of FUS before Phatmass, so I have no opinion. Because it's a Franciscan University, I figure all the students there go around talking to Brother Squirrel and Sister Bird, and burst into spontaneous song for no reason. They wear a lot of brown, and don't really care much about their appearance. Plus, although St. Francis was cool, his sister was the truly awesome one. But, what do I know? Well, I graduated last May, but I was a Mount student. And there are a few other Mount students here on the board as well. I'm sure there are other colleges represented too. IgnatiusofLoyola
i can't handle that much cold weather! plus, I'm in the U.S.
I live in Chicago, but grew up in California. When my niece was looking at colleges, one she was considering was the University of Chicago, but she thought Chicago might be too cold. I reminded her that Harvard, Yale, Princeton etc all are located in areas that get snow and cold weather in winter but no one ever seems to mention that as a reason not to go there. My niece ended up at the Univ of Chicago. She loves it and it turned out to be exactly the right school for her. The first year, before winter set in, I brought her a full set of warm clothes that would take her from anything from 50 degrees to -20F. I also told her that, as CatherineM said, your body really does adjust and you don't feel the cold as much. The problem is that many people fly into Chicago in winter from warm places and 1) don't have the right clothes, and 2) their bodies haven't had a chance to adjust to the cold. In Chicago it gets gradually colder all fall, so your body adjusts gradually. My niece has had no trouble at all adjusting to Chicago's weather. And, I think many of the "ultra-warm" clothes I gave her she has never worn--or maybe worn once or twice. (I knew she would never wear many of them--the purpose was to make her less fearful of the cold.) Now, when she goes home to California at Christmas, she calls her family a bunch of "weather wimps." Bottom line: Most people do just fine in colder weather--even if, overall, they prefer warmer weather. Ideally, a college decision should be based on the best college for an individual--and is different for everyone. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I've always understood that upstate NY got a LOT of snow. In Chicago, at least, the last time the weather went down to -25 (actual, not wind chill) was something like 25-30 years ago. I truly believe in global warming, because Chicago's weather is definitely warmer now than it was when I first moved here. And, Steubenville is south of Chicago, so my guess is that it's at least a little warmer. Don't know about snow. For some reason, the snow seems to avoid Lake Michigan and go either north or south, so Chicago itself actually gets less snow than most people realize. (Chicago gets lots of visitors who come to Chicago from warmer states during the winter on business, so I think, overall, Chicago's reputation is worse than the reality. For example, when Minnesota had that huge storm last week(?) Chicago got 2 inches. And, we haven't gotten any of the East Coast storm at all. Not all storms miss us--but a lot of them do. And may it stay that way. LOL.) Some of the Steubenville students (and grads) can give you the real story on the weather there. Unfortunately, it's still winter break, or they could tell you what the weather is like right now. I was kidding when I said that it seemed like everyone on Phatmass who's in college goes to FUS--but a lot of them do. And, a couple of the guys look pretty cute and seem very nice. (I realize that "cute guys" isn't supposed to matter, but it doesn't hurt, either. LOL)
