I'm a softie for little kittens and a certain breed of cats.

It really is sad that PETA and some other groups aren't as good as they seem in theory. I have a sad memory (TV hidden camera program) of an operation done on poor baby kittens that harmed them, and then they put them with the mom cat that was heartbroken and didn't know what she could do. That's downright unethical and I can't stand that. Makes me want to cry.

This is pretty incoherent. With that said, there's certainly nothing wrong with supporting the humane treatment of animals. Just because you eat them doesn't make them hypocrites.

note the word "facebook" and not "term paper," also, original title contained the word "rant"

Unless the animal/insect is causing a problem, I usually just throw them outside. (To me, they have no idea what is going on, their just doing what they do.) Which surprised my friend when I threw a spider outside rather than squash it. Which encouraged them to go catch a cicada... it was cute.

Regarding PETA - There is something perverse about an organization that has to rip off the pope while violating its own mission on a daily basis, just to stay in business.

2415 The seventh commandment enjoins respect for the integrity of creation. Animals, like plants and inanimate beings, are by nature destined for the common good of past, present, and future humanity.[194] Use of the mineral, vegetable, and animal resources of the universe cannot be divorced from respect for moral imperatives. Man's dominion over inanimate and other living beings granted by the Creator is not absolute; it is limited by concern for the quality of life of his neighbor, including generations to come; it requires a religious respect for the integrity of creation.[195]

2416 Animals are God's creatures. He surrounds them with his providential care. By their mere existence they bless him and give him glory.[196] Thus men owe them kindness. We should recall the gentleness with which saints like St. Francis of Assisi or St. Philip Neri treated animals.

2417 God entrusted animals to the stewardship of those whom he created in his own image.[197] Hence it is legitimate to use animals for food and clothing. They may be domesticated to help man in his work and leisure. Medical and scientific experimentation on animals is a morally acceptable practice, if it remains within reasonable limits and contributes to caring for or saving human lives.

2418 It is contrary to human dignity to cause animals to suffer or die needlessly. It is likewise unworthy to spend money on them that should as a priority go to the relief of human misery. One can love animals; one should not direct to them the affection due only to persons.

i weep because those same celebrities against animal cruelty are for abortion of a human child. that is the sad part.
I harbor the exact same sentiment.
I cannot stand those animal abuse commercials; they make me angry! Along with the "Animal Cops" -type shows. I despise that they make a big deal over the dogs, but meanwhile the kid down the street gets one meal a day, at school, and young girls are forced into having abortions... and no one ever hears about that. Certainly no one makes a TV series out of it!
I'd be fine with the anti-animal abuse stuff, if there was just an equal amount of anti-child-abuse and anti-abortion stuff.

I always think of the opening scene in Twister, when the family is taking shelter in a cellar. The family dog is left behind, and is trying to make it inside. The Dad opens the door and lets him in. Seconds later, Dad is sucked out of the cellar by the tornado. Its sad but okay, as long as the dog made it.

The reason people have this particularly strong reaction to animal suffering is the knowledge, conscious or subconcious, that they are the helpless, innocent victims of our original sin. Any suffering they endure is ultimately our fault, and so we really don't like to see them suiffer.

This year at the march for life, I want to make a sign of a cartoon seal holding a sign that says "save the baby humans". Ideas?
How about a sign that says "What if YOUR mother had had an abortion?

("YOUR" as in the person reading the sign.)

--Big Jon.

PS: those ASPCA commercials do make me feel bad about animal abuse. They give me the chills, the kind of chills like the ones when remembering a lost loved-one.

haha or "your mom chose life"

Today in my AP Lit class, we read a poem about a guy who was driving, pulled over, and pushed a dead deer to the side of the road. In the poem, he noticed that the deer was pregnant and the baby deer (deer fetus?) was still alive in the womb. Some of us thought he would cut the baby deer out, but in the end, he just shoved the deer in the river. (great poem.....) Anyways. The other kids in my class were saying it wasn't fair to kill the baby too because it was innocent and couldn't help itself and because it wasn't really a part OF the mother. Even my teacher agreed. (She's highly pro-choice.) I couldn't help but see the similarities between the poem and abortion. In my class, almost everyone was saddened that the baby fawn in the womb was killed too. I wonder what these people feel about abortion. When my teacher asked what we would do in the same situation, the girl sitting next to me said "Would you shove a pregnant woman into a river if you knew that SHE was dead but her almost full term baby WASN'T?" And my teacher just stared and didn't respond. It was a beautiful moment.
P.S. I'd try to save the baby deer.

Well I doubt anyone is pro-abortion. But that's a whole different subject.

Amen! I would've high fived her, but that would have been rude and obnoxious. I high fived her in my mind, though lol.

About abortion, my father would tell abortion advocates that for them he could agree. If you catch the drift.
