rkwright
Last night our pastor was arrested. Public Lewdness at an XXX book store.... great.... We're a small parish, but thats growing. He was really instrumental in getting a brand new wonderful church built, and now this... Prayers for him, but mostly for our local Church - and the Church as a whole. CatherineM
I remember getting that phone call in the middle of the night to bail someone out from church who was caught exposing himself in a gay movie house. At least it wasn't our priest. We should remember to pray often for our priests. They have such lonely, difficult lives at time.

rkwright
So I found out today that this priest had actually requested a sabbatical a while back but was denied.
CatherineM
Bishops often deny sabbaticals these days because they simply don't have enough priests to fill the all the spots they need.

If it affects the community to such a large degree then it should be well covered.
Servus_Mariae
I think what loveletslive was pointing out is that the media tends to use such stories as a means to impress upon the public a certain image of priests. The entire debacle of the sex scandals has shown us what an interesting story the folly of a priest makes as well as the willingness of the media to exploit this to the discredit of the Church. It's going to take years if not decades for the Church to recover from how poorly they handled everything, this incident certainly doesn't help. The media exploits it because the public has interest. It's also good that the media alerts the public that someone who is supposed to be a trusted individual amongst the community is committing sex crimes. CatherineM
I don't have a problem with the media covering an issue so long as they give balanced reporting. If they report on a priest caught doing something like this, they should also cover it when protestant ministers are caught, or teachers or coaches. They don't.
