It depends. Did they know each other before the compliment or did he just come right up to her as a stranger and tell her that? If the second then speaking as a lady myself and from the experience of others, that guy wouldn't be getting a date.

I am trying to figure out where I got that expression from:

"easy on the eyes"

is it an old expression I got from an old black and white movie? Must be. It sounds sort of forties or fifties.
