Anastasia13
I am contemplating what I can do with a graduate degree in the humanities. Do any of the humanities give specific job skills beyond a Bachelor degree other than to be a history or philosophy professor though?

Winchester
You can frame the degree and cover the hole you're going to punch in the wall when you realize it won't make you a millionaire unless you revolutionize humanities in some way that makes people want to spend money and that all the contented pigs with BS degrees are ordering food from waiters with humanities degrees. Archaeology cat
For archaeology and art history, a graduate degree prepares you for academia or a museum post. I'd say most graduate programmes are geared towards preparing you for a career in academia.

I like to think that I am preparing myself for a life of creating mayhem.
Archaeology cat
I guess I wasn't preparing for a life in academia, either.

Anastasia13
Don't 2 of those 4 count as liberal arts/ humanities?
Probably, but here is my thinking. Law and business give tangible skills-why I figure law is ok. Poli sci is a social science. If I did international studies, I would emphasis on the political and international relations aspects of a certain area and try to work for the government. I am assured that I am right to discount history and philosophy for grad school. Edited November 25, 2010 by Light and Truth
