Men's Winter [Fashion]

Recommended Posts

I just bought a winter jacket, and it was a big toss up between a black pea coat and a really solid looking parka. The parka won out, surprisingly. I see a lot of young people rocking the ski jackets (ie. northface) and they don't seem to cut it, and campus is cold enough as it is.

Anyways, discuss. What do you usually rock? If it's anything like this dude, you probably look pretty dapper:

Peacoat? What, are you in the Navy? You're Canadian, you're supposed to look like this guy in the winter.

That looks super high-tech, like it has tin foil in it or something.

Winter jackets are for the weak.

I have a very simple philosophy. Go as long as possible with as less as possible, so the body slowly builds up strength to bear the cold. But going without a coat in mid January is madness. Especially if one plans on riding a bike through the snow.

:punk:

it is Columbia Sportswear's new omni-heat stuff. It actually works. The inside looks a little Star Trekkie, but the outer shell is grey wool with black nylon, so it looks pretty wicked.

I like it. That sort of stuff is really expensive here. We have one Canadian brand, MEC, that is really high quality, but you can spend $500 easy on a jacket. I find those sort of shells great for the in between months, but during Canadian winters nothing beats 2 inches of wool and cotton.

This is the traditional French-Canadian winter gear, but the French Canadians were mainly from Normandy, and the Normans (the Norsemen) were mainly from Norway, so - at least through a long concatenation - yes, this is Scandinavian. It was made from a wool blanket and I think it was called a capot (but I've been wrong about bigger things than that).

hm, as someone exposed to a lot of early French Canadian culture, I can honestly say that that was not popular. Maybe like the first generation settlers in 1603, but I've never ever seen that, even in Canadian history courses. :P
