MissyP89
My common sense and BS radar are going off over this website, but I don't want to risk not passing it on to the good folks here. The general idea is that this couple is using an internet poll to decide what to do with their unborn child. Recently, they were infiltrated by 4chan, an organized forum of people who thrive off mockery, sadism, and for those of who who know the term, "lulz." Thankfully, word has gotten out into the pro-life community and the results have tipped today. Please vote. And pray hard for this family who is obviously misguided. http://www.birthornot.com/
dominicansoul
looks like "have an abortion" is winning at the moment..
dominicansoul
good to know this was a hoax!
MithLuin
The couple is not admitting it was a hoax. Their current spin is that while he is staunchly pro-life, she's pro-choice and was ambivalent about the pregnancy in the beginning. The reporters are, apparently, ignoring her. She says she's lost her job over the media storm, too. On one level....serves you right for starting such a stupid poll. On another level, I hope she has realized that just because you are scared at the beginning of a pregnancy doesn't mean you should make a decision at that moment. Things change. I'm sorry she's gone through 3 miscarriages, but really, why would she abort now? I don't think the unborn baby is in danger.
Archaeology cat
It's normal to feel scared at the beginning of a pregnancy, especially if it's your first. I was terrified when I found out I was pregnant with Kieran, even though I was also happy. That certainly didn't last the whole pregnancy, though. MithLuin
It's her fourth, though. Her first was unplanned; all three ended in miscarriage. It's unclear to me whether this one was 'planned' or not. Seems like it was (they were trying to start a family earlier this year, and lost two pregnancies). She was afraid the complications would make her lose this one, too. Anyway, the 'vote' is closed now. They're sending the results to be analyzed to try to eliminate multiple votes from the same IP address. With over 2 million votes, they certainly got their name out there....to think that their child is going to find out that they did this??! BG45
....to think that their child is going to find out that they did this??!
My friend T. was saying the same thing the other night when I was home for the week of Thanksgiving Break. He's staunchly in the pro-choice category and was saying it just wasn't right to let the public decide that sort of thing, and that he'd voted for the birth option; but even voting the birth option he was wanting to know what the kid's life would be like when he/she would learn the parents had put that life on the chopping block. homeschoolmom
I live in the same metro area as this couple. There's no media storm. None at all.
MithLuin
And it turns out....once the fraudulent votes were removed, the vote was overwhelmingly for keeping the baby. Thus...4chan strikes again . The mother claims to be fairly pro-choice, it seems like. So, prayers for this child and the family would probably be a good idea. MithLuin
I think there's almost no way the couple was going to abort the baby this late in the game. They weren't deciding based solely on the vote; they had always reserved the right to make their own choice. The father of the child is pretty staunchly pro-life, and the mother had frequent ultrasounds (because of difficulties with the pregnancy). She's been pregnant three times, but never this far along before. I think she honestly was scared in the beginning...but I think they weren't intending to abort the child even if the vote did turn out that way.
