kafka
the greatest sin is disobedience, which is the foundation of all sins...
I'd say pride is the foundation of all sin, but pride can start as a tendency toward sin, and then become an intended end, to exalt oneself, by evil means. Every actual or objective sin, mortal or venial, chosen by a person is a sin of disobedience to the will of God. So disobedience itself cannot be the greatest sin. Every knowingly chosen act has three fonts of morality: intention, moral object, and circumstance/consequences. The three fonts determine whether or not the overall act is good or evil. To be good/moral/licit all three fonts must be good. If one font is bad the overall act is immoral, a sin. So we have to analyse what are gravest intentions, moral objects, and consequences of any one sin and figure out what is the one worst overall sin. One of the worst intentions would be malice, or hatred for God, which the Jews had in their intention toward Jesus. The worst objective moral object I havent figured out yet. The worst conseqences of any single sin ever committed surely must have to be Adam's first sin, because the evil consequences of his one sin harm the whole human race. So the one of the worst, if not the worst overall sin committed by a man would have to be Adam's since the consequences of his sin harms the entire human race in an unfathomable way. And there is no possible way he could have foreseen the consequences of his sin. No other sin has had worse consequences than Adam's, but at the same time Adam's sin did not have the worst possible intention or possible moral object. He didnt sin out of hatred for God and he didnt murder or rape or commit a sacrelige, etc. Edited November 27, 2010 by kafka
