vianney
Is it a sin to tan just to be tanning. Im not talking about laying out in the sun I am talking about going to a tanning booth like once a week to tan just to tan. I think it is a lil vein. Your thoughts? XIX
I think it's a little vain and a little cancerous.
Iacobus
I don't do it. My body in a temple of God and I am not going to put undue and avoidable stresses on it.
IcePrincessKRS
lol Yeah, cancerous and vain. I like being tan, but I have a personal vendetta against tanning beds. They're like a microwave for the human body. Ew. Maybe vendetta is not the right word... I've never used one... I just don't like them.
Paladin D
Tanning may make your skin a little darker, but it does more harm than good. Many doctors do not recommend tanning, because it just damages your skin. Also, the more damaged the skin, it'll show much more when you get older. I suggest buying those tanning powders, my mom has some of that stuff, and when she puts it on, it looks like she has a tan. I rather try and protect my skin, so I'll look a little younger and smoother when I age.
God Conquers
artificial tanning... definately sinful, not to mention ugly... which just adds on (destruction of the temple and all that) Regular... I don't see why not... especialy if it's a consequence of spending quality time outdoors with family and friends!
HomeTeamFamily
i think that tanning either in a booth or on the beach (natural sun) done for the sole purpose of looking better is yuck.......however i am a lifeguard so i cant really help tanning when im on the job......and btw i use liquid shirt as sunscreen (45)......me and paladin gonna be looking all young when we are 40 haha

God Conquers
Sunscreen is probably a good idea bro... we don't wanna lose ya prematurely! Also, old people who tanned too much as young people look really bad.
CreepyCrawler
it's worse for your skin to be in a tanning booth than to be outside b/c it's so concentrated and for so long... i don't think it's a sin, though, just like wanting to wear nice clothes, shaving your legs, wearing makeup or getting your hair done is not a sin. but if you're obsessed with your body, then that's a sin. i wouldn't recommend tanning, though. not good for you!!! paladin, for sunscreen. take the amount of time it takes you to burn, say 15 min. then take the SPF (sun protection factor) of your sunscreen, say 15 and that's the amount of time it will take you to burn with sunscreen on. the higher the SPF, the longer you can stay outside without burning, but it's better to cover up anyway. make sure you get coverage with UVA and UVB protection, too!!! CatholicCrusader
It's strange how everyone jumped on the corporeal side of the issue. The first and really only important issue is the pure pride and vanity involved. Physical ailments would be very much secondary. God bless. Jake Huether
Everything in moderation. I don't think tanning (artificially or otherwise) is intrinsically sinful. So to say it is a sin is a bit presumptuous. That's like saying enjoying a lolly pop is sinful. Unnecessary? Sure. Done once in a blue moon (or even more) is cool. Healthy? NO. Same thing with a smoke every once in a while... I think you'd have to debate Blazer on this one. LOL. My wifey got a tan (at a booth) for our wedding. She didn't do it for sinful reasosn. It was kindof a fun thing to do (her and my sis). But she did it to look good for me (even thought I already think she's a hotty! LOL). It was a first and probably a last. It wasn't a vice, and it was done out of charity (for her hubby). So, although I think it is normally unnecessary, I don't think we can say it is sinful. It is potentially sinful. But then again so is eating, and a whole ship load of other things.
