This is a cool quote i ran across today.

Governor Zell Miller had a stirring speech about the sacrifice of soldiers: “For it has been said so truthfully that it is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the agitator, who has given us the freedom to protest. It is the soldier who salutes the flag, serves beneath the flag, whose coffin is draped by the flag, who gives that protester the freedom to abuse and burn that flag.”

:like: I kinda thought it was good

So remember each time you see someone who has served our country. When you see one just lean over and say Thank You.

That's all most people need, and in most cases it will mean more than any medals they could have been awarded or were awarded.

Two little words that mean a lot, "THANK YOU".

Of my living relatives, I've sent thank yous around to my brothers, Dail (Air Force Intelligence), Chris (Army Artillery), Ray (Navy Submariner), and my foster son John (Navy CS3). I wish my dad and uncles were still around to thank.

Hinter dem Horizont

Happy Remembrance Day everyone.

I support this day because I have/had a lot family members involved in the army. My grandfather on my mother's side guarded the harbour in Newfoundland from enemy German submarines. My Great Uncle on my mother's side was one of the 68 survivors during Beaumont Hamel. I had a few members that fought in the Battle of the Somme.

I have a cousin that fought in Afghanistan and Kosovo. I have an auntie, who still lives, that fought in Vietnam, Kozovo, and Afghanistan.

A letter from an Iraq War veteran to Laurence Vance. Nov. 11, 2010.

"I am a Veteran of the Iraq War and wanted to write to thank YOU for your article this morning. My libertarian awakening began in Iraq as I considered the insanity of what we were doing there, and was later nurtured by Dr. Paul, Lew, yourself, and all the other great people associated with the LRC. War is a horror that permanently damages everyone involved in some way, solves nothing, and erodes the liberty of the very people who blindly support it. Few soldiers want war, but when war comes, they'll go rather than face trial and imprisonment. The average man on the battlefield cares nothing for whatever "cause" is being fought for. A man may join the military for "his country", but he never fights for it. He fights to try to keep himself and his buddies alive, and to accomplish whatever objectives the state has set, so he might escape the prison of the battlefield. Soldiers don't fight for their country, and they certainly don't fight for freedom. Soldiers fight only for the state. To shrink government and secure liberty, we must end this worldwide military empire. To end war, we must end the state. Today, people will wave their flags and shake the hands of vets while never realizing that every man in the military is a nail in the coffin of what I'm told was once a free country. I just thank the creator that I never directly harmed anyone during my time in service to the state, and hope the libertarian ideas that I try to spread make up for the time I spent as a cog in the war machine.
For Peace, Jer" http://www.lewrockwe...ives/69294.html

Happy Veterans Day, Matt and thank you!

In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Yes. Darn that reality and reason. Always gets in the way of emotions that feel good. Total buzzkill, man.
