Jake Huether
Jesus' Mother and Brothers Matthew 12: 46 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. 47 Someone told him, Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you. 48 He replied to him, Who is my mother, and who are my brothers? 49 Pointing to his disciples, he said, Here are my mother and my brothers. 50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother. This passage obviously goes beyond what is "seen". How can Jesus' disciples be his mother? I can see how they might be his brothers and sisters... but mother? It suddenly occured to me that Jesus is calling us to contemplation. I believe this is the first time that Jesus really indicates to us how we are to be devoted to Him. We are to see Him through the eyes of his family. Those that do the will of His Father in heaven will be able to see Jesus through the eyes of his Family! And that is exactly what Catholics do. In particular the Holy Rosary becomes our avenue to "be His Mother". We contemplate the mysteries of Christ through the eyes of His Mother, and in essense we become His Mother. Her feelings are ours. We are aware of how she suffered during the Passion, because we put ourselves in her possition. And in reflecting on the lives of the Saints, we also become His brothers. We know what it is like to actually be related to the Savior. Jesus doesn't "dis" his Mother. He calls us to unite ourselves to her! She does the will of His Father. And so if we do the will of His Father too, we MUST see Jesus through the eyes of His Mother!

willguy
I lov ehow people try using that to disprove the importance of Mary. It's like "Dude, He says whoever does God's will is His Mother, and Mary did God's will to the extreme."
Fiat_Voluntas_Tua
I don't understand why people reject having a Mother? It makes no sense.
