Hereafter

"A drama centered on three people who are haunted by mortality in different ways. George (Damon) is a blue-collar American who has a special connection to the afterlife. On the other side of the world, Marie (de France), a French journalist, has a near-death experience that shakes her reality. And when Marcus (Frankie/George McLaren), a London schoolboy, loses the person closest to him, he desperately needs answers. Each on a path in search of the truth, their lives will intersect, forever changed by what they believe might-or must-exist in the hereafter."

directed by Clint Eastwood, starring Matt Damon.

I plan on seeing it this friday. Should be interesting to see what sort of teachings are being expressed about the next life. I think Eastwood is Catholic, but I'm not hoping for a whole lot. Still should be a good movie by the looks of it.

I'll let you know. I dont go to movies to be taught, but it will be interesting to see what sort of undercurrents are being conveyed in this one.

I think that's it is a wack movie from the little I've read about it here. Movies with this kind of theme are too important to mess up with mixed messages about heaven.

Invictus was a positive movie though.

I just saw the movie, and then for fun I read that review above, and I thought the review was absurd. I mean from the way he analyzed the movie it seemed like he was the one having hallucinations and near-death experiences while watching the movie, and then projecting them into his interpretation of the movie which was blown out of proportion.

It was a nice movie. Different type for Eastwood. It did the trick of getting my mind off my problems for two hours which is all I can hope for from a movie. The problem with any sort of theological analysis is that it is almost purely phenomenological (not to mention fictional). It focuses on the experiential, and the common theme is death. It doesnt attempt to answer any questions, it just follows the journey of three people who are affected by death in different ways and how they unite in the end, to bring a bit of resolution to their lives. Its not over-dramatic, and it doesnt spoon feed everyone with all that might be going on in the mind and hearts of the characters who are involved. The only thing it really teaches is that human persons continue to live after death, and these human persons are still in relation with people who are living on earth which is basically true. It doesnt attempt to answer the problem of where these human persons maybe after death: Heaven, or Hell.

I have to be fair and just, and see the work for what it is. So, I didnt find anything offensive in it. And its nice to have movies where people are united, or find some goodness in eachother in the end, because it is a difficult life and we are suppose to be helping eachother be and do good.

You are so cool.

Don't be a jerk.

Matt Damon as a hokey "psychic" come on. Eastwood is usually great but this is tripe to the third degree. "DERP I can see Heaven" awful.

I have not seen this movie, but from what I know of it from everything I have read/heard about it, "Hereafter" does not support particularly Christian/Catholic worldviews. Naturally, that doesn't put me off from being interested in it. I don't believe I've EVER seen an Eastwood before, but this one (and all of his other ones) look/s very well-done.

By the way, who here has seen "Dirty Harry"? I can't find a single source online that will tell me what content there is that a Catholic would find offensive....

Thank you for your eloquent and well thought out analysis and contribution to Kafka's thread.

I wondered about it because it didn't seem like the typical Eastwood movie. I suppose he is getting closer to the end, and has started to wonder.
