The producers of The Simpsons have contradicted the Pope's official newspaper by declaring that the animated family are not Catholic.

It comes after the L'Osservatore Romano stated that Homer and Bart were followers.

But Al Jean, executive producer of television show, said the pair only considered converting for one episode - The Father, the Son and the Holy Guest - aired in 2005.

I wonder if anyone finds it sad that a paper that represents the church in whatever capacity would stoop to printing an article about the Simpson's and try to tie it into catholicism, maybe if they used a tact like how they have all the failings of humanity and unfortunately that would include catholics too, but this show is far from catholic or christian in nature. I have seen many episodes over the years and have had to turn them off more than watch them through, I find they assault all religions and are more an hedonistic attitude or statement in their offerings. Someone made the quip about the church being hip, good point, is the church supposed to embrace popular media to attract the masses? I remember Pope JP2 hailing Bruce Springsteen as an example of catholic values and saying his music had an uplifting and inspiring message agreeing with catholic views, this just a few months before he had an affair with a band member and divorced his wife and married the mistress, how about them catholic values? I wonder if Jesus privately told his apostles to accept the entertainment of the time and hail it as christian, or did he say to preach and convert?
