kafka
yep. I did. Got only five hours of sleep, but that should suffice, it is Sunday. 'all shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.' I read that this morning from Julian of Norwich, and I love it. I dont remember seeing this before. "I want to hold your hand, I want to hold your hand!" --Beatles Yeah I miss the golden age of Lamity too. I see FQI post every once in a while. Believe it or not, I know her husband from when I used to live in Colorado Springs. We've pmed a few times. Strange but true. kafka
Wait. How did you get from me finding you interesting to wanting to hold my hand.
oop sorry, dont take it personally. I tend to be effusive, and I mean its a metaphor, this is the internet, technically one cannot hold hands. Last night I was reading Scripture, and its really wonderful how God uses the metaphor of holding hands for spiritual love: {41:13} For I am the Lord your God. I take you by your hand, and I say to you: Do not be afraid. I have helped you. {42:6} I, the Lord, have called you in justice, and I have taken your hand and preserved you. And this one Jesus has us written on his hands, his wounds! {49:16} Behold, I have engraved you on my hands. And from Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich, about Adam and Eve: "Adam stretched forth his hand to Eve. They left the charming spot of Eve's creation and went through Paradise, looking at everything, rejoicing in everything." Then this morning I heard the Beatles song "I Want to Holy your Hand" at Whole Foods. So in the end what I think I meant to express by "I want to hold your hand" is I like you for liking me and thinking I am interesting (with maybe a touch or a slip of innocent flirtation). Am I out of the hole?
Deus te Amat
No, I pretty much got all that... I just wanted to give you a hard time for MIKolbe's benefit. My brain works in such tangential ways sometimes that I'm not surprised when others do the same. So, metaphorical hand-holding it is!
for MIkolbe's benefit you subversive. . .well at least you must have a nice brain, I like the word tangential. Well, I will have to try and rush this thread forward a few pages, before MIkolbe sees this. Maybe breakdown one of the chapters of one of my book with a real long post, so this gets lost in the shuffle, and before the word chump starts sullying this thread. kafka
read an article today in Psychology Today, Revenge of the Introverts. I thought this part was hilarious, cause I'm like this: Conversation between an introvert and an extravert can involve a series of misunderstandings. As the introvert struggles to follow multiple conversational threads and sort out his own thoughts, he remains quiet and appears to be just listening. The extravert reads that as engagement, a cue to keep talking. The introvert struggles with the continuing flow of input and soon starts to shut out the extravert, while nodding or smiling, or even trying to stop the exchange. Even a simple opener of "Hello, how are you? Hey, I've been meaning to talk to you about X," from anyone can challenge an introvert. Rather than bypassing the first question or interrupting the flow to answer it, the introvert holds onto the question: Hmm, how am I? (An internal dialogue begins, in which the introvert "hears" herself talking internally as the other person speaks.) Even if the introvert responds, "I'm good," she's probably still reflecting on how she is: Good? That's not quite right. I really have had a pretty crummy day, but there isn't a quick way to explain that. She wants to first work out privately her thoughts and judgment about the day. She also may evaluate the question itself: I hate that we so often just say 'good' because that's the convention. The other person doesn't really want to know. She may even activate memories of how the question has struck her in the past. While the introvert is evaluating the question on at least two levels (how she is feeling and what she thinks about the question, perhaps also what this says about our society), the speaker is already moving on to sharing something about his day. The introvert must take the incoming message from the speaker and tuck it into working memory until she can get to it, while more information keeps flowing in that demands tracking, sorting, searching, and critical analysis. The cognitive load becomes increasingly difficult to manage, as the internal talk competes with the external conversation. Moreover, while trying to keep the conversation going, introverts may miss social cues, which can make them appear socially inept. The conversation is also anxiety-provoking, because the introvert feels she has too little time to share a complete thought. She hungers to pull away and give time to the thoughts her brain has generated.—Laurie Helgoe, Ph.D.
kafka
writing my book at school, having a good old time. Get hungry. Walk across the street to grab a bite, only to find I locked my keys in the school. Walk around the school a couple of times only to find a window broken. School is in wild college part of town so some drunks must have busted the window last night. Grrr. Waste a whole hour or maybe more getting things sorted out. City is dead. Everyone is inside watching the sordid Packer game. Will rebel against the population. Have a beer, pray, read a book, with "I Want To Holy Your Hand" dancing in my head. Good times

kafka
10-25-10 work after work 3:30 to 6:30. Help co-worker and friend make sausages. Grind raw and frozen pork and venison with co-worker's friend who is Serbian Orthodox. Learn that the term 'purge' is used by sausage makers to refer to extra blood left over from butchering and frozen in with raw meat Purge makes me think of the Purge in LOST. Finish making sausage after revolving a handle thousands of times. Hang out at friends house. Shows me a book he is reading called Evolutionary Faith. Peruse contents only to see a Chapter titled "Incarnation: African Style." Open book to beginning of a chapter which seemed to interest me and read: "We have been exploring the relational matrix, the complete erotic landscape in which energy weaves in and out of an ever more variegated tapestry." Burst out laughing and call the the author (who is a Catholic priest) a charlatan. Advise my friend not to read. Good times.
