Sternhauser
So if a drunk person disturbing the peace does not stop when a cop calls to them, what should be done?
She was obviously not called because she was disturbing the peace. She was called because she bruised his ego, as was indicated by every aspect of his tone of voice and his demeanor.
You are under no professional obligation to deal with intoxicated parties. You face no liability if a drunk with whom you interacted later is hurt or hurts someone else. Her apparent inability to keep from shouting obscenities show a lack of control with which the cop must deal.
She didn't shout, first of all, and there is no law against insulting a police officer. Her use of obscenity in that situation was targeted at him, not the public, as any rational person could see.
Had she stopped, she would likely have received a warning to be civil and everything would have been done unless she chose to continue her performance elsewhere. She's lucky a cop restrained her. A nice fist from a citizen would have been a lot more damaging.
Had she stopped, he would have arrested her just the same. His body language admitted no other possibility at that point. No citizen would have stopped her like that cop did, to begin with. She posed no threat. There are drunk people on public transportation all the time, and they're seldom a problem. And they're often a lot more foolish than that girl, and somehow, they almost always make it home without getting hit by a citizen, who don't feel the need to prove their self-worth to a drunk chick. ~Sternhauser

Since you know exactly what he was thinking. classic example of you saying something off the wall to try and prove your point. you have no idea what the cop was thinking, but go ahead and tell yourself you do. 2. you don't know what she did because much of the video is missing. so once again, jump to conclusions. she very well could have been screaming vulgar obsenities at everyone and anyone. of course when you show a video with part of it missing you can jump to any conclusion you want to. 3. once again you showing your ability to read minds. classic. you don't know what the cop would have done if she stopped, but keep telling yourself you can read minds. drunk people on public transportation usually get emts and the police called on them and are removed from the bus and taken to the hospital. so your wrong here. in the last year i have probobly taken 50 people who are drunk off of the public bus and to the hospital. but nice try on this one. Ed Normile
Man. those cops are so unfair! I should be allowed to ignore their authority whenever I want, don't I have freddom and rights? I should also be allowed to be drunk and make a scene in public, who cares about anyone else around, I have rights and as far as using the F-word I have freedom of speech too. Yup, in a perfect world I could go around drunk, cause a public disturbance and use disgusting language aimed at police just 'cause I gots da rights. ed
